Summary: I had given up trying to find a decent upgrade option for my cranky old desktop. Main reason? Windows 8. Tried it. Hated it. Most of what was available with Windows 7 were leftovers with underpowered processors. Needlessly to say, I was pleasantly surprised when HP brought back Windows 7 PC's "by popular demand" in the beginning of 2014. Not only were Windows 7 PC's available, they were loaded onto machines with the current generation Intel processors.
Summary: It is great HP is selling Windows 7 machines again. This machine has plenty of USB 2 and USB 3 ports. I configured the machine with more memory and upgraded graphics so I could run dual monitors. While the machine comes with a 300 watt power supply my measurements show it typically only uses about 60 watts do to the energy efficiency of the circuits. It is also very quiet.
Summary: It is ok for working with Office, etc. But if you want it for gaming...forget it. It still has a lag time with Office but still ok and workable. We have to find a better graphics card as this one cannot play games very well. Even FB games it lags a lot. For instance, if you want to play a simple game of pool on FB, it works but by the time it's your turn, it is so slow that you almost lose your turn. Consider something different if you are a gamer.
Summary: We purchased this equipment as an upgrade to a four year old desktop Quad core machine to speed performance and upgrade graphics. Windows 8 is very frustrating because many features of prior versions are unavailable or hard to find. The wireless keyboard we purchased with the machine is a real downgrade from our previous inexpensive wired keyboard and the Num Lock has to be reset each time we log on.
Summary: Every day I either lose my toolbar or the print size changes and covers the screen. I have popup blocker initiated and still get all kinds of popups anyway. If this was our first computer, it might be our last! I've come very close to returning it to HP! I may yet. The operation of Windows 7 is nothing like my year old laptop with Windows 7. Very annoying!
