Summary: Normally, I don't hesitate to purchase refurb products from newegg. However, this time around, this particular tower had 3 different RAM manufacturers. 1 module is made by Qimonda. 2 by Nanya. The forth and last by Samsung. And it was the slowest possible speed that could be installed.
Summary: Relatively easy to upgrade. I put a 2 gb ddr2 memory stick I had laying around into the empty third slot. It was recognized and the machine now has 4 gb of ram. Cloned the hard drive onto a 1TB drive and it works. There are a lot of models around. The two I bought have the 64 bit Windows on them.
Pros: Great value when it was $100 on some sort of sale. I bought two of them and they both work. HP documentation available on the web is great. Compact, Quiet, lots of usb ports, legal copy of Windows 7, includes keyboard and mouse.
Cons: A couple of minor parts were missing from one of the computers. I told them about it - interesting to see if they do anything about it.
Pros: This computer came quickly, packaged well and does what I wanted it to do which is to do some web surfing and as a terminal for remote desktop.
Cons: However when I first got it, it was losing time and bios settings due to a dead motherboard battery. You would think that the first thing you would do in refurbishing a computer is to replace the motherboard battery or at least test it. But it was easy enough to replace it so it still gets 4 stars.
Summary: Win 7 preload came right up, no missing drivers or exclamation marks in device manager. Haven't used Windows much on it beyond the first bootup as it's being used as a Linux MythTV DVR frontend.
Pros: Affordable Win 7 home premium 64 bit - price of the OS alone is almost as much as the whole computer It's an HP business PC, designed for long life as a typical desktop No junk software loaded
Cons: Not currently being delivered to match the photos - no recovery disc, DVS cable, or half-height addon video card. I was banking on using the video card with a DVS to DVI cable to connect to an HDTV. Newegg has been asked to update the photos. Open PCI slot in the back missing a filler plate (wher...
Summary: I originally brought two of these for a friend to utilize memory (reviews indicated two memory slots were available) and hard drives I had on hand. They worked so well that I brought two more, and was surprised to find that they were not exactly the same.
Pros: Core duo CPU, PCIe and PCI slots, room for second HD. Four memory slots, decent onboard graphics.
Cons: No longer comes with ATI Video card, but has slot to add an inexpensive low profile, low power card. Memory slots may be populated with mismatched 512 MB ram, but dual channel mode is still functional. Also the pictured installation media (whats in the box) is replaced by a 12G recovery partition...
