Gateway SX2801 is the worst computer and first I have ever owned
9 September 2012
Excerpt: I have owned this gateway computer for 4 years now and I have had the worst experience of my life to the point that if I had a choice I would just do away with computers all together. I really want to own a great computer but with this being my first now not so much. After 2 years of purchasing this computer I started to have problems. I even tried to go as far as contacting customer service. When I called the number located on my tower it said Gatewway filed bankruptcy.
Excerpt: We have owned 2 Gateway computers. The first is still running and is over 7 years old. The second is 6 months old. Both of these Gateways were extremely affordable and have absolutely wonderful attributes. They are quick, easy to use and take up very little room. Gateway is definitely our computer of choice.
Excerpt: I own this desktop and it's pretty nice. The front has a glossy finish, which could be a fingerprint magnet if you touch it too much. It has so many usb ports. This desktop also have a little flat rectangle on the top for putting anything you want on it like a external hard drive. When this is turned on, the fan inside of it is pretty quit compared to my brother's Hp computer. The problem with these desktops is that it takes a while to load.
Excerpt: I bought this tower with keyboard and mouse refurbished from circuit city for only 399.99. It has 1TB and 6GB which is better than I have ever had! It came with windows 7 and 2.8 pentium, multi-in-one media card reader, DVD-SUPER multi drive, etc. etc. I just had a couple problems when I first got it trying to get the back up disks set and had to call for customer support but it all worked out great. I got it MAY 2011 and its been 5 months. I LOVE IT!
Excerpt: This computer has enough RAM and hard drive space to accomodate most games and graphic processing. The graphics card is decent, and the fact that it comes with windows seven is a plus. It is small and fits into the space underneath my desk with room to spare. the Black case is sleek and stylish, enough to leave out in the room and look nice. It is fast, and runs the Sims 3 game very well. There are a few down sides to this computer though.
Hooked it up to my 55" TV and added a wireless keyboard!!!

Summary: It is really awesome! Did I mention that it has a terabyte hard drive to record all my TV shows on -- like a DVR? Did I mention that I was able to hook up my coax cable to the back of the computer because it has a TV tuner card???? This is what Google TV was wishing it was! Did I mention that none of the networks have their streaming TV blocked to Gateway computers?
Summary: I know this computer (SX2801-05) is not the one I am reviewing. However, I would suspect that my comments on the harddrive and tech support would apply to the 2801-05 model as well. With that in mind, here is my review. Bought the SX2801-01 just under three months ago. Worked pretty well; fast speed; eject button for CDs is a pain, hard to push, requires you to hold down for long time.
Summary: This is a quick review as I got this yesterday and I wanted it fresh in my mind. Bear in mind I was a tech for several years before I retired. It didn't do all I thought it would but that's dish and windows fault primairly. I bought this with a new 42 inch plasma, wireless logitech keyboard and mouse, with the intent of surfin and watching tv from my recliner ! Guess what, it works DYNAMITE.
Summary: Got it to be a Htpc plugged it in, minimal bloatware, had a usb wifi dongle and connected with no effort, ran Media center and picked up my ota digital hd channels just fine, ran updates and watched tv on my Samsung 46inch lcd via hdmi just fine, very quiet, remote works fine. I normally build my own Pc's but was lazy this time,so far so good.
