Summary: I purchased this computer on august 21, 2010. It worked well for about 1 year then my programs stopped working one at a time. I was unable to download any microsoft updates. Lately i've been getting a message in lower right corner of my screen saying my windows 7 home premium software is counterfiet.I contacted amazon, they advised me my machine was one year old and they could'nt help me. My advice to anyone is to not buy from amazon or tiger direct.
Summary: Have had the DX4840-07 for ~ 5 months now. Runs smooth as silk. Great for intensive accounting & photo software. Had my last Gateway for 8 years before upgrading. Love Gateway. Never had any problems. Great service from Amazon.
Summary: Gateway DX4840-07 I purchased this computer from Amazon about 3 weeks ago with Windows 7 installed. It seemed to be ok and I am finally was getting it up to speed. But all at once I am seeing this notice in the corner saying: "Windows 7 build 7600. This copy of Windows is not Genuine" I did some research on the Internet only to get the feeling that this could be an issue that is going to give me a lot of frustration. Why do I have to put up with this crap!
Summary: I've been a Gateway customer for over 20 years. Their machines have been built so well I never needed support. However, I bought a new machine in September and two days ago (less than four months) the power supply went completely dead. Went through Costco to Gateway support. Here's my list of complaints: 1. Niether the Costco tech nor I could even understand the lady on the other end. 2.
Summary: I was surprised how quiet this computer is . . what a bonus that is. It is very fast as well. I have experimented with AMD microprocessors, but it is best to pay a bit more and get the Intel model instead. I haven't had a moment of trouble with this PC, so can't anything about customer support. My guess is that it is mediocre. I have a two year warranty on it because I put it on a special Platinum credit card. Hopefully will never have to use it.
Summary: I needed to replace a 3 year old office desktop with a noisy fan (which I will repair when the transfer is complete.) The Gateway SX2850-33 got a great review from CNET but it seemed cramped, so I looked further, and this model met my needs. (The -11e model was about $100 cheaper but had an i3 processor). Lots of memory (6GB) and disk space (1TB), and an i5 processor with Windows 7 64 bit.
Summary: I actually bought this because of my recent problems with Dell system quality, order fulfillment and customer service. I found good reviews about this system on cnet, so I gave it a try. It sets up easily, is super fast and super quiet. My husband loves it. You have to set up your own recovery disks. It takes four dvd's for system default backup image and drivers and one cdr for recovery boot disk.
