Still working after nearly 4 years

Irving L., Newegg
29 December 2013
  • Summary: I keep on the lookout at pawnshops (where I bought one of my used ET1831-07 machines) and elsewhere. I need one more to use for surveillance and home control.
  • Pros: I did buy my first ET1831-07 from Newegg. The combination of price, delivery, and general bang for the buck was perfect. Since then I have bought two more identical machines and only added an extra hard drive or dvd burner. Once upgraded to Windows Professional or better, these are great for smal...
  • Cons: Ok, so the materials in manufacture are a bit on the light side. Just don't go setting monitors or books on it and all will be well.

emachines et1831-07 what you get and what you need

johnathan k., Newegg
17 January 2012
  • Summary: intel pentium dual core processor windows 7 64-bit home premium edition 1tb hard drive (even though the box reads 750gb) restart discs are first and foremost, make those immediately.
  • Pros: fast. proven reliability. easy to upgrade the graphics card and the power supply. you do not need a new motherboard, just buy a new graphics card and windows 7 installs the new drivers automatically. you dont have to reset through bios, or anything complicated. also, the power supply was easy to ...
  • Cons: wimpy stock power supply. if you buy a computer with a dual core processor and the power supply is 250w, replace it with at least a 400w one with a bigger fan. it will extend the life of your computer. cant upgrade to 8gb of ram without replacing the motherboard. a computer should always have the...

Great machine except...

Rany B., Newegg
9 September 2010
  • Summary: Emachines, get with the program and be a bit more compatible with other manufacturers mkay?
  • Pros: Windows 7 came with very little bloatware and hooked up easily enough. For the price it's a nice little unit that will do any multi-media or graphics editing without hesitation. If you're going to game, get a better power supply to go with a graphics card; but the con is... (continued in the con ...
  • Cons: I would have given this 5 stars except for the fact that when I went to replace the power supply with a 500 watt unit for my gt 240 graphics card, the screw holes didn't line up. Apparently, the only power supply you can put in there is one from Emachines. I have it sitting in there on the ridges...

Not bad for a "Mom" Machine

William H., Newegg
3 September 2010
  • Summary: I bought this for my Mom to replace her increasingly cranky 5 year old Dell and I'm really quite impressed with the overall quality of it. I've installed an inexpensive and low power Radeon 4650 which made Windows Media Center usable and added sorely needed DVI and HDMI outputs.
  • Pros: Really solid out-of-the-box experience. Runs Windows 7 very well indeed. Very quiet. Minimal amount of bloatware. Mom *loves* it.
  • Cons: The built-in nVidia 7050 is hopelessly outdated and underpowered (don't even think of trying to watch fullscreen NetFlix @ 1680x1050 for example) with a paltry Window 7 Experience score of just 3.2. Not upgradable without a motherboard and power supply swap.

Upgradeable and effective computer

Anonymous, Newegg
6 August 2010
  • Summary: If you are willing to spend money in the future, you can spec this computer out to a Quad-Core, 8 GB of RAM. That is what I'm planning on doing at some point.
  • Pros: - Upgradeable - Affordable - Very fast, very efficient
  • Cons: - Integrated graphics card (which doesn't run badly) - Two slots for RAM - PSI Express x16 doesn't have an extremely powerful graphics card capability (based on what I found on Newegg)

edward a., Newegg
23 July 2010
  • Summary: I will keep doing business with Newegg in the future.Always satisfied with products I receive from Newegg.

  • Cons: No modem, but for this price I'm not complaining. The only thing that would not work is my OLD modem.Modems are cheap so no complaints. The Keyboard is a cheap one so I put my wireless one on instead. No driver issues

Nice Machine

charles f., Newegg
15 July 2010
  • Summary: Very nice package. Unlike other reviewers, I found the keyboard & mouse (its optical) very usable. This should be a machine that you will not have to replace for a long time. Microsoft seems to have finally gotten it right with Windows 7.
  • Pros: Well designed machine Very quiet !!! Mine came with a TB disk drive Has IDE connector if you need to add an older disk drive Even Windows 7 runs well Fot the price, you cant beat it.
  • Cons: The 4G of RAM uses both memory slots. If you need to expand, you will have to pull the existing DIMMs. Some bloatware to uninstall, but not a huge amount.

great bang for a buck

Koji S., Newegg
5 June 2010
  • Summary: this computer will handle almost anything but gaming (ie. modern warfare2, wow, cs, etc) great computer, fast, reliable, and cheap.
  • Pros: unboxed it and it was ready to go. plugged in right to my acer h213h through vga without needing to download drivers for it. fast computer. i dont know if anyone else experienced this but my particular purchase came with a 1tb hard drive rather than the usual 750gb. great surprise!! worked wonder...
  • Cons: lack of onboard wireless. mouse and keyboard are generic type. lack of vga cable (luckily my monitor came with one) case has cheap plastic feel, specially the doors for the dvd drive or the button itself, it feels like it could break off easy.

eMachines ET1831-07 Pentium E5400

Tracie P., Newegg
19 May 2010
  • Summary: Fabulous machine, it was here in 2 days with regular shipping. I really love NewEgg. Just be careful as many of your old devices won't work with x64 versions of Windows 7.. I have since replaced my flatbed scanner and laser printer due to Homegroup issues (Apparently lots of folks on Google are...
  • Pros: I am an IT professional, and I won an HP Mini last year. I tried to use it as a desktop - forget it! I've had an eMachine in the past (in my old gaming days) and can't say anything but wonderful things about it. Up and running in minutes, fast, wonderful - I'm a very happy customer.
  • Cons: We don't do wired internet in my house, so built in wifi would have been nice. But not really a con. For the price I paid, an add-on 802. n USB adapter is as fast as a silly PCI adapter any day.
