Summary: Recently decided to purchase a new desktop and settled on the XPS8700 specifically because I am doing a lot of visualization and wanted the processing power of the i7-4770 and the RAM expansion space.
Summary: I selected the XPS 8700 as a replacement for my Dimension 4300. The computer arrived with Windows 8 OS - I wanted to go ahead and do the upgrade to 8.1 before I started installing my own software. Reading, I found that the upgrade would show up in my "App store" - I had never thought of an upgrade to an OS as an "App", but I guess I am just behind times. Several days later, the 8.1 link did appear.
Summary: I haven't had the machine for very long as I purchased it late 2013. It's been working just fine. The first thing I did was install a clean copy of Windows 7 to remove all of the pre-installed software. I use the machine for browsing, word processing and some light gaming and it's been working just fine.
Summary: I purchased an XPS8500 in December 2012 after I noticed that Consumer Reports rated it as the best desktop in its class. But I experienced so many unfixable anomalies with my XPS8500 [Dell even replaced my motherboard and hard-drive to no avail] that I purchased an XPS8700 in November 2013.
