I like the modest upgrades possible to this system

Summary: I'm 1 1/2 years in owning the XPS 8500. I like the modest upgrades possible to this system: 256GB SSD - Samsung 840 Pro, added 16 GB Valueram, so now have 24 GB and now just installed a GTX 750ti low power consuming mid-range a GPU. My additional $500 in upgrades over 1 1/2 years has really turned this system into an all-star performing for anything but serious gaming. I bought my son an XPS 8700 and made similar modifications.

Summary: I had this Dell XPS 8500 Special Edition stored in "Saved For Later" for months before finally deciding to puchase one of the three available during the MA tax-free weekend, mostly in part because Amazon lowered the price to $1,611.06. This XPS replaces my 933 gHz Dell Dimension which is still running strong after 13 years. I purchased the older 8500 Special Edition because I liked the contrast between the black front panel and white case.
Summary: I bought this when I thought everything was going over to Windows 8. I didn't have a touchscreen and wasn't willing to spend the money for one for a PC. I'll use that money on a touchscreen laptop. It's a great computer, fast, plenty of ram and hard drive space.I added a second internal hard drive for backups and after a year not everything is working great. I"m not sure if you can still but this with Windows 7 but it's still a great computer.
Summary: I bought this as an upgrade over my four year old Asus laptop....I have owned it for several months now and I have been incredibly pleased. I can run all of my games on max settings, run various programs at a time without a problem, and even host servers like it's nothing. It's a wonderful budget gaming computer. I am very happy with this purchase.
Summary: When this arrived, I took it out of the box and couldn't get the operating system to work. I contacted Dell who couldn't do a thing. The company that sold it to me talked me through getting it going and it's been wonderful ever since.
