Good Value

ALFRED RILEY, Amazon
19 October 2013
  • Summary: For the price point this computer offered a bevy of features for a home pc. Easy to setup, incredibly responsive, while being ultra quiet. Although I'm satisfied with it, there was a issue with the computer freezing intermittently while beeping 6 times, searching provided multiple possible solutions with non being definitive. In the end the issue seemed to have resolved itself, and it's worked perfectly ever since. 3.5 stars.

BACK TO SCHOOL

Count Valentine, Amazon
2 October 2013
  • Summary: BOUGHT THIS COMPUTER BECAUSE IT WAS THE MOST POWERFUL UP TO DATE COMPUTER ON THE MARKET AT THE TIME I BOUGHT IT (NOV 2012) THE COMPUTER I WAS USING WAS 13 YEARS OLD AND WORKING WELL, BUT NEEDED MORE POWER FOR PROCESSING PICTURES OF LARGER FORMATS. IT CAME WITH WINDOWS 8 AND MUCH TO MY SURPRISE, NONE OF THE PROGRAMS I WAS USING WOULD WORK WITH WINDOWS 8. SO NOW I HAVE TWO COMPUTERS SITTING SIDE BY SIDE AS IT WOULD TAKE TOO MUCH MONEY TO ADD THE NEW PROGRAMS.

Good hardware, Windows 8 a letdown.

Sleepless in Sea Cliff, Amazon
18 August 2013
  • Summary: For the price, this is a powerful computer. It has a large hard drive, fast processor, and the video card can handle some 3D video games. There are plenty of USB ports for expansion, and there are PCI express slots and drive bays available inside the case. The styling is nothing to write home about, but at least it's not ugly. Overall, the hardware gets 2 thumbs up. The problem here is Windows 8.

A Decent Computer

Art Paradis, Amazon
14 August 2013
  • Summary: I bought this computer instead of making one as I usually do. After 3 days the mother board crapped out. Dell had a tech knocking on my door on the 2nd day after that. With the unit back on line I got rid of windows 8 and replaced it with windows 7. Windows 8 is the worst piece of crap I have ever seen, I also got rid of the junk video card that came with it. It just could'nt do the job.

Windows 8

jr, Amazon
6 July 2013
  • Summary: The Dell Computer is a fine box and works great. I wish it had Windows 7 in it, rather than, 8. It's a challenge to get up to speed and Windows 8 seems to be rather flakey besides.

Hate Win 8 but this system is okay

Moonrise "Berner Lover", Amazon
26 April 2013
  • Summary: System seems to be typical Dell. Runs fine right out of the box and was easy to set-up. But I hate Win 8 environment - needs major tweaks. If you get this system, try going to Dell and getting Win 7 loaded on it, if they will.

Slightly less than expected

SAMUEL N MIHALIK, Amazon
1 April 2013
  • Summary: This is an excellent unit for the average user, but not for everyone. This XPS 8500 was purchased to replace my aging XPS 130 which had a fairly large case and a reasonably sized power supply. I expected to move my Hauppauge HD TV card and other full size cards to the 8500. Unfortunately, there were few specifications posted on Amazon's web page for this configuration.

  • Summary: the computer arrived in a cardboard box with no documentation. in my past experiences with dell, they have always provided a brief set of instructions explaining how to hook it up and identification of each input or output connection. i received nothing from amazon.. in the past, i have always received documentation with respect to the desktop configuration. amazon provided nothing. so, i really don't know what i have.

Looked good, but no room for expansion

FRP_LLC, Amazon
31 December 2012
  • Summary: I build lab test fixtures and prototypes for customers, so I was looking for a medium cost ($1000 - $2000) workstation plus test the parallel processing advantages of the NVIDIA Keplar GPU technology in their GTX models. For many projects, I need to utilize the PCIe expansion slots with 4 to 16 lanes so I can run various digitizer, FPGA or DSP cards.
