Strong daily use machine for general computing tasks

Summary: First: a used PC (the only current availability of this model) is not something I would typically recommend to somebody in the market for a desktop computer. Even if you are headed that route, I'd carefully examine new machines at the same price, where you are likely to find increased performance and warranty support. This review is recap of the 3.5 years (and counting) of service of a Dell Inspiron 580 purchased from Dell.
Summary: We bought this computer in May 2010. In December, the hard drive failed, they sent us a new hard drive under the warranty. The 2nd hard drive failed after less than 24 hours. After contacting customer service, we were told we needed a new motherboard and hard drive. Two days later a technician came and installed only a new hard drive (the computers 3rd). I called customer service to address the issue of not getting a new motherboard.
Summary: Great little workhorse. It's used. Never bought a used pc tower before but I just needed something for light home use. I could not be more pleased with this. Its specs are great, even for an old used tower.
An honest review from someone who actually knows technology.

Summary: FIRST OF ALL: In response to the other reviewer. Don't believe the person whose telling you to buy a Gateway over a Dell. Gateway hasn't been good for 10+ years. I bought this computer almost two years ago and haven't encountered a single problem. The performance is great, its quiet, dell has been wonderful, and it runs my entire game library without the slightest hesitation.
Summary: We acquired five Inspiron 580s for our office and have found them both to perform as good as expected and reliable. Now 2+ years later, I'm adding staff and looking for more of same. Nothing wrong with this machine for general office work spanning from accounting to desktop publishing, and light video editing and graphics work. Simply no problems on any of the machines.
Excerpt: Like the Dell PC I had before, this is a relaible product. Once its out of the boxits up and running instantly, no setup problems. The specification is good for the money and Dell's expertise at building these things comes out. The computor look cool and everything is neatly hidden. Performance wise ths is ideal for anyone wanting to surf the next and general computor use but with enough power to allow the kids to play games to there hearts content.
Great computer, excellent Dell service and technical help

Excerpt: My old 4 year old computer hadn't got enough memory for many modern programs so I was particularly looking for a new computer with a good memory specification. I was a bit worried about choosing Dell, as there appears to be so many negative reviews on their sales and services - however the Inspiron 580 had such a good specification list I decided I would risk it. It comes with Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit.
