Summary: Wonderfully compact and silent, but we had major problems with playing any movies (on the hard drive or online) and even playing youtube had problems. We put a solid state drive and some good ram in, but this just didn't make the cut. videos took forever to load and then would pause or would flash/blink during play. Returned this and put together our own mini pc and it is working wonders!
Pros: Small, slim, lightweight, and low power consumption. I like the design.
Cons: Lacks native W8 x64 graphics driver support. The graphics driver is actually outdated (290's). It's louder than the HTPC that I built from scratch, but it is in a much bigger case, so there's adequate cooling. Please read "Other thoughts" for more details.
Summary: Also, the fan runs 100% of the time and was a bit loud (I could hear it sitting 10 ft. away while talking with another person).
Pros: Small, cheap. I didn't measure power usage, but I expect it's pretty light.
Cons: On Windows, doesn't have enough power to playback Netflix HD (lot's of stuttering) even though CPU and GPU utilization is about 50%. YouTube 720p and 1080p also has a little stuttering in playback (but not as bad as Netflix Silverlight). ASUS driver support is very limited, only one driver release. Most drivers don't work with Windows Vista. Windows 8 works, but there was a ton of graphics bugs in Firefox. I had to disable D2D acceleration to get rid of the corruption...
Summary: It's advertised with a 320 Solid State Drive, however the options for the product are 32Gb Solid State, or a 320 Gig Sata drive.. Dear Valued Customer, I was looking at the description and it does not say it comes with a 32GD SSD drive on Amazon. However, I checked the asus website and it does show you that option. Depends on what country you are located to have that option.
Summary: Getting the case open was not all that difficult, however and I would still give this a 5 egg review if that's where my problems ended. It was not.
Pros: This is a slick little PC with a very small footprint. It runs everything I need it to smoothly and I had zero problems after I got everything physically installed.
Cons: As other users mentioned this is not the easiest thing to open. Had I not read the other reviews this would have taken longer. I had to press and slide a little harder than what seemed "safe". I find it very odd that for a PC that comes with no RAM and no drive (HDD or SSD) they wouldn't provide you with instructions on how to open it, being that you at least need to put RAM in it before it will boot.
