Good, small, low cost

Andrew S., Newegg
12 April 2013
  • Pros: Very small form factor, good functional basic computer for light duty.
  • Cons: The ASUS bloatware included cost me several hours of diagnosing a conflict with some Windows software (Microchip PicKit3) that just didn't work on this computer (but worked on many others) until I uninstalled the ASUS software. Do yourself a favor and uninstall everything in the ASUS program fold...

Decent, but fails at 1080p

Ryan E., Newegg
5 November 2012
  • Summary: I bought this to replace a Zotac running the 350 processor and a slightly lesser video card. I was running Openelec on the Zotac and full 1080p h264 files caused terrible problems, eventually overheating and destroying the unit. I hoped this upgrade would solve that problem. It did not.
  • Pros: Small, fairly quiet and good value for a mid range HTPC.
  • Cons: Can't handle 1080p video (at least using the pre-installed windows 7 home and VLC). Dropping the OS and HDD to lower the price would be ideal. Annoying to take apart. Prying the cheap plastic cover off is tough to do without scratching it. Stand is flimsy. Weight of HDMI cable causes the unit to ...

Good HTPC, but WiFi is horrible

Darryl L., Newegg
30 August 2012
  • Summary: I never really planned to stream to this device since it has a decent sized hard drive, but I did want to set up some automated copying to and updating of XBMC. Right now I have a network cable strung out the door of my office, down the wall in the family room, and across the front of my cabinets...
  • Pros: Easy setup, decent specs for an HTPC, small form factor fits well in media cabinet, no noise (or so little that I can't detect it), included wireless keyboard and mouse have good range - I can use them from the couch. XBMC runs fine on it and videos play nicely. I also tested VLC streaming from a...
  • Cons: WiFi copy and streaming speeds make using WiFi unrealistic. When it's sitting next to my dual band router I can get reported copy speeds of about 6-8 MB/s. A ~4 GB file takes about 16 minutes to copy which is respectable, but certainly not stellar. Move it on the other side of a wall and 15' away...

Amazing Little Computer

Larry S., Newegg
21 July 2012
  • Summary: If you do not have HDMI cable, do not forget to get one if you want to connect it to your HDTV
  • Pros: This Eee Box worked right out of the box. It came with a sleek wireless keyboard and mouse. Thanks to this, now it is possible to use my HDTV as a computer, waching whatever is out there in You Tube, ect...

Awesome piece of hardware

Alexandr K., Newegg
13 June 2012
  • Summary: This is the best piece of electronics I've purchased in many years. Perfect for watching HDTV, fast browsing, file storage and file sharing across my home network. It's a bit more expensive than some other alternatives, but it's definitely worth it.
  • Pros: easy setup, compact size, high performance, cool and functional design
  • Cons: didn't found any cons so far

Really updated review

Victor S., Newegg
17 February 2012
  • Pros: Smooth running, cool, low power draw. Can be set up to do accelerated high-definition video with Windows media player, flash, and Microsoft's flash. The very newest Linuxes have 3.2 and 3.3 kernels that make using the sound chip easy.
  • Cons: Takes some practice to get the setup right. In particular, depending on the Linux, you may have to compile a more recent open-source video driver into the xfree86. With the recent open-source driver compiled in, video is unusually good, even accelerated, and an improvement over the manufacturer's...

As expected

Jichao P., Newegg
31 December 2011
  • Summary: Good nettop. Deserve the price.
  • Pros: GPU, RAM and software are good.
  • Cons: CPU is just acceptable. Can barely ran warcraft III, but is better than expected when doing zip-and-unzip. The hard drive is a little noisy. Looks as if the hard drive has been used for more than 2 years.

Yup, it works, but...

Victor S., Newegg
23 December 2011
  • Summary: Judicious use of .asoundrc file in Linux gets sound to work in Linux. Even recent Linuxes will probably need a custom upgrade to the graphics driver, which means finding the driver source code and compiling it. In other words, Windows only if you're a newbie.
  • Pros: Compact, lightweight, low heat, great graphics, great sound.
  • Cons: Wireless antenna broke off almost immediately, not as well made as wifi antenna in other Asus eeeboxes. Led lights are much too bright and distracting in everyday use. Need to be taped over. Can't be opened up to install memory upgrades.

Mi si è ristretto il computer!

7 April 2013
