works great on 3rd attempt

Igor Y., Newegg
10 February 2011
  • Summary: I have exchanged 2 units and finally I am very satisfied with my 3rd unit: it has been working great for the last 2-3 weeks. I exchanged unit #1 because cons 1) and 2) looked like a hardware problem to me and the manufacturer agreed with that.
  • Pros: Works great both under Ubuntu 10.10 and Windows 7. Bluray looks great on 40" 1080p HDTV. Netflix, Hulu, 1080p video streamed via NFS or Samba (using wired interface) work great. Sound does not work via HDMI under Linux out of the box but after some googling I found out how to configure it. Remote...
  • Cons: 1) Not all USB ports work at boot time (in my third unit, only 1 USB-3 port on the back does not work during the boot but works fine in OS, in the second unit most of USB ports did not work at boot time but worked in OS) ; 2) Not all monitors work at boot time (example: 1920x1200 SUN 24" monitor ...

Asrock Rocks!

Anonymous, Newegg
13 December 2010
  • Summary: -The case got warm to touch after one hour of Avatar BD playback. -The remote worked on pausing the BD playback thru PowerDVD 10 however there was a pause (one second) when you push play again.
  • Pros: 1. Installed W7 Pro 64-bit OS on the machine. Bootup is fast and efficient 2. The BD playback via PowerDVD 10 is fantastic, both in audio and video, better than PS3. I have a Denon AVR-2809Ci AV receiver and a 50-inch Panasonic Pro plasma monitor.
  • Cons: These cons are subjective though nice not to have the shortcomings: 1. The top and back panels are made of plastic not brushed aluminum. 2. The top panel is not flat rather concaved-in. This reduces the room inside the case for addition of a second 2.5" hard drive. Also, there is no RAID option i...

Great media center that does it all... mostly well

Anthony M., Newegg
9 December 2010
  • Summary: I have been working with Cyberlink for days, and they tell me both that the ASROCK is not supported ???? then they said my drivers were not correct. If I reinstall the OEM I can get video \audio to work perfectly until it disables some features again to get me to upgrade.
  • Pros: Configuration: Windows Vista Home Premium Media Center QUAD HDHomerun QAM tuners TivoSlide Bluetooth remote (LM remote software to map keys) Onkyo 1008 Reciever Cyberlink powerDVD Runs nearly silent, cool, HD audio pass through for BR media, blazing fast for a media center, looks sleek, it really...
  • Cons: Trial and error to get drivers installed correctly, Cyberlink DVD will eventually cripple ability to play HD audio and upgrading WONT fix problem. HD Audio: OK so if you care about HD Audio I have run into a HUGE problem and I would be interested to hear if anybody else was able to fix it. So aft...

An Ideal HTPC

Anonymous, Newegg
8 December 2010
  • Summary: Package arrived today in rain in its original black boxes (without a protected box) with the outer box torn up! This is unlikely of Newegg packages that I have received previously, hence one egg deduction in the rating! I will test the system and repost further comments.
  • Pros: Compact, good hardware website reviews
  • Cons: None at the moment
