ASRock CoreHT 252B Review

AnandTech
2 September 2011
  • Conclusion: The CoreHT 252B represents a quantum leap in both CPU and HTPC related GPU prowess over the Core 100. As such, we have no hesitation in recommending the CoreHT if the Core 100 was ever in your radar. Of course, pricing is an important aspect. We are assuming that this mid-range HTPC will debut around the same price with which the Core 100 was launched. Our recommendation, however, doesn't come without reservations.

Asrock CoreHT 252B HTPC Review

TechSpot

  • Conclusion: Despite dominating the CPU-oriented charts, the CoreHT 252B wasn't exactly unstoppable. If you intend to use this HTPC for a casual solution to PC gaming, you'll probably want to look elsewhere as the Intel HD Graphics 3000 engine just doesn't cut it. Relatively modern games such as Just Cause 2 are not even close to playable when using medium quality settings, with just 12fps at 1440x900, around three times less than what is required for an enjoyable experience.

ASRock CoreHT-252B HTPC

  • Conclusion: Should you buy it? The answer depends on what your needs are. If you need something to act simply as a playback station, I might suggest looking elsewhere. An Atom or even a lower-end Intel Core series HTPC, of which ASRock offers several, would suit those requirement much better.
  • Pros: Very compact, Excellent included hardware and features, Top-notch performance, Very upgradable
  • Cons: OS not included, Excessive heat, Possibly rather pricey

Test: ASRock CoreHT 252B - HTPC mit viel Rechenpower

Hardwareluxx
20 August 2011
  • Pros: hohe Leistungsfähigkeit, umfangreiche Ausstattung (HDMI 1.4, Bluray-Laufwerk, USB 3.0, eSATA, WLAN), angenehm leise, geringer Stromverbrauch, einfache Erweiterbarkeit mit zweitem 2,5"-Laufwerk, stabiler, problemloser Betrieb
  • Cons: hoher Preis, geringe 3D-Performance, durchschnittliche Optik
