Excerpt: I bought a 2013 iMac because I needed to NOT have Yosemite. I will be using specific video editing software (Autodesk Smoke, Avid) and, at the time I bought it, neither program was supported by Yosemite.
Great computer, but the black screen of death is a huge bummer...
7 August 2014
Summary: Maybe I just got unlucky, but I'm having issues with the 'black screen of death'. The screen turns off but the computer still runs. I have to keep it on a low light setting so it doesn't shut off. I've downloaded a fan control program but it doesnt seem to do the trick.
Excerpt: I purchased this computer primarily because i wanted to upgrade to Pro Tools 11 and my old imac(2006) wouldn't be able to handle it. I've opened up a small Pro Tools 11 session without issue. I've installed Photoshop Elements 11 and it opens up without issue.
Excerpt: The iMac and Mavericks are everything one has come to expect, fast, classy design. At present Thuderbolt not very useful, expect to use USB 3 for most peripherals. Adding Windows 8 via Bootcamp difficult if not impossible until a few more things are fixed.
Excerpt: I am ver impressed with the new iMac. Gotta say it is one speedy machine. I considered holding out for the Mac Pro for my graphic design work in illustrator and photography editing in Lightroom, but this thing flies. Saved a lot of cash over the pro
Excerpt: I just upgraded from a 2010 iMac to this beast and it's been a dream thus far. Everything is faster, smoother and quieter. The new screen looks amazing and has less glare and the fusion drive works like a dream. Love this package with that drive and the high end graphics card.
Pros: Easy To Set Up, Easy To Use, Fast, Powerful, Stylish
Summary: I am just getting into this machine, which will probably be my main memory storage & writing machine. However, the screen amy be actually too big for normal word processing work. the upper controls are off to the left instead of right above your work where you'd expect them.
