Ultimately too low-power and sluggish; sometimes just doesn't stream videos
6 March 2014
Summary: This review is for the Acer RL70 "nettop" computer, which I purchased in 2012. I returned it after it failed to meet advertised expectations. PROS - Quiet operation - Good looking design - Wireless full-sized mouse and keyboard included CONS - I appreciated the concept of a low budget "nettop" for your media room tv that is supposed to stream videos and play your existing media and surf the web, however this device failed to meet (and barely met) expectations.
Summary: I really like this little machine. It's not terribly fast, but it's still quite capable. After uninstalling all the Acer stuff and most of the Windows 8 apps, and after turning off extra Windows 8 animations, and it works very well.
Summary: Problems with it from when I first installed it. Freezes, slows to a crawl for no reason. I ordered it to replace an older machine, but didn't immediately set it up; took me a couple weeks to start playing with it. When I found out the problems, I contacted the dealer and was told I only had a few days to get a replacement. They seemed not to even know anything about selling me the unit; I had to furnish all of the information twice. Then the seller didn't respond again.
Summary: The computer has a small form factor as well as the ability to connect to HD televisions through HDMI. It's great as HTPC and it can play some light games. I occasionally play League of Legends on this computer, and I can get frame rates up to 60 with a drop to about 45 on all the settings on low. Other than that I use it mainly for streaming videos on the big screen.
Summary: This was a pain from the get go. I never have any trouble with my computers communicating with my TV and I had issue after issue with this one. There were constant issues with the pages being pixeled. The page load was slow. The only reason it should get a star is because the wireless keyboard and mouse were fantastic! Easy to use and compact, yet not so small that you made a lot of typing mistakes.
Summary: Good product but limited capabilities! It works great as a Media PC, but not very good definition (at least in a 54' LED TV) if writing or regular web surfing. Great to download a movie/TV show and watch it. Comes with Win8 and refuses to install Win7. I don't like Win8, i think might be great for touch screens but for regular PC falls short (as usual for a windows copycat). OVERALL GOOD PRODUCT, but I installed it in the living room so my daughter can use netflix etc!
Summary: This by far was the best upgrade that I have ever been through. It took less than a hour to get my Revo hooked up to my HDTV & to be up & running. There was no hassle getting Google Chrome up as my home page, & the tiles are very easy to navigate. Come's with a two month free subscription to McAfee Internet Security Suite. This is a great PC for media,& some light gaming. As of this date 8/22/13 I have had to refresh my PC twice. The PC is fine, the problem is Windows 8.
Summary: Acer platform is outstanding and performs extremely well as an audio and video server. Recommend upgrading memory to 4G, depending on your application. Rated 3 star due to Windows, 8 not the Acer platform.
Summary: When I bought this computer I didn't expect much, but when I received it I immediately installed the extra 2gb ram and started using it and it shocked me for how good it was. I mean it really wasn't bad at all and windows 8 only took me 2 weeks to get used to it. The whole package was just not what I expected, it was even better and I play my games on the highest graphics it can go and it won't let up. this is one of the best and cheapest desktop replacement I got.
