Excerpt: This concept is actually pretty cool having an Android home phone. Is it practical? I am still debating this quite a bit now. I have a landline home phone as it is included in my internet package. I don’t really need this Archos 35 Smart Home Phone, it is more as in I just want to try it out and play around with it. This phone is pretty simple actually. It is very similar to a regular smart phone, but slightly different. First of all, it is touch screen.
Summary: Archos Smart Home Phone First let me say it does appear to be an expensive home phone compared to the cheap DECT phones around. In my opinion IT IS NOT, you are getting so much more than a bog standard phone. This is a WI-FI terminal, house phone, Skype Phone and so much more. If you add up the cost of all the separate items would cost it starts to look a very good value for money purchase. I have read criticism for the plastic case, but compared to what?
Summary: On paper and in the pictures, this phone looked great and would have enabled us to sync our contacts from Google. However, the quality did not live up to expectations. The phone was lightweight and plasticky but most importantly, the screen was very unresponsive - resistive rather than capacitive I understand. This made it extremely difficult to type on the Android on-screen keyboard. Swiping was also very difficult.
