It is Dual Socket Compatible...

Jun K., Newegg
1 September 2009
  • Summary: The original reviewer with the 3 star rating is partly correct. Newegg did make the mistake of pairing this CPU up with the TYAN S7002G2NR-LE Dual LGA 1366 Intel 5500 Tylersburg SSI CEB Dual Intel Xeon 5500 Series Server Motherboard - Retail.
  • Pros: Very fast.
  • Cons: Expensive. If you have dual quad core xeon processors, you really don't need this much speed unless you're running them for enterprise level servers and if that's the case, you must be making bank, so this is hardly a con. :)

doubtless a fine processor...

Matthew L., Newegg
20 August 2009
  • Summary: I bought two of these and a dual-socket server motherboard, and did not read the fine print. It'd be nice if Newegg would mention that it is incompatible with dual socket motherboards, instead of offering combo deals this processor and dual socket motherboards.
  • Pros: Just about the best workstation processor you can buy right now
  • Cons: Only features 1 QPI, so you can _only_ use this chip with a single-socket motherboard, NOT a dual-socket server motherboard as is currently advertised (via combo deal)
