Great chip

Fred K., Newegg
15 January 2013
  • Pros: I bought two of these chips and put them into a SR-2 machine which I built over a year ago. They overclocked to 3.9ghz easily and have been folding 24/7 for nearly a year now without a hiccup. Even with stock Intel heatsinks from i7 970 chips, the e5649s only get up to 65c. I couldn't be happier ...
  • Cons: No cons to report.

runs straight out of the box!

  • Summary: supposedly the 24th fastest dual setup. But sort of moot when the processor is being used as a front end computer to TESLA supercomputing GPU backend.
  • Pros: Have two in Supermicro 7046GT-TRF barebone system. Setup as a HPC soon to have Tesla GPUs. Compatible with 64bit MANDRIVA linux 2011 edition. No issues. rock solid.
  • Cons: What cons? None so far.

As expected from Intel.

Ash W., Newegg
1 December 2011
  • Summary: We've got four of these in two dual-socket servers with 24/48GB RAM and six-drive RAID5 arrays; they've been running as full-time 24/7 production systems for the past eight months. One of them is a VM system and runs several production VMs at once, without breaking a sweat.
  • Pros: Fast. Lowish-power. Six-core with HT.
  • Cons: None so far.
