e3-1275 revisited

John F., Newegg
13 January 2014
  • Summary: If you are buying today buy the new V2 version or consider the e5-2600 series where later on you can run dual. We have had the odd lock up using VMWare work station on the workstation and we have had to reboot which takes forever we run so many programs at once.
  • Pros: have two more than a year. one as hyperviser. gives top cpu performance scores for what it is. the other as work station. both are rock solid and work as if they were new. Each now is paired with upgraded Kingston ECC 32GB. The workstation with 32GB mem is awesome for my multitasking and others a...
  • Cons: none on the hyperviser. On the work station the graphics built into the CPU are now outdated. I am going to have to buy a Video card.

To the poster below

Chris S., Newegg
23 February 2012
  • Summary: It's more expensive because it's a server CPU. Support for ECC RAM. Some versions have greater caches then their i5/i7 counterparts. If you're not running a database you don't need this.

E3-1275 Xeon

John F., Newegg
16 February 2012
  • Summary: My passmark test is spot on. The PCPITSTOP score is fine too. Why are prices for this cpu and others with the same score of around 9000 all over the map? What do the more expensive CPU's do ( with the same Passmark Score )that commands a higher price?
  • Pros: I was so impressed with the work capabilities I bought a second one. Both are set up as dual boot vmware hyperviser or zen citrix server / win 7 ultimate ( as workstation ) both on asus pwbws motherbd. i am using the cpu's graphics and ecc kingston memory 16 gigs. What makes them great are they a...
  • Cons: Why can't i overclock these cpus? On one of them ( it might be the mother boards fault ) the Asus AI Suite 2 does not install. As the performance drop is small i have not yet persued the matter. These CPU's are not exciting. For some this would be a big Con. And why can't I run a pair?

Great performance, ECC support

Anonymous, Newegg
13 October 2011
  • Summary: Used in an ASUS P8B WS for a work computer with 16 GB of Kingston ECC RAM (KVR1333D3E9SK2/8G). Runs my VHDL simulations (single threaded, high memory bandwidth requirements) in half the time compared to a Phenom II X4 940 (3GHz quad core). Not using onboard video, using a pair of Quadro NVS 295
  • Pros: Great performance, low power, ECC support. Cost is amazingly low for a Xeon. Rock solid stable.
  • Cons: I don't think it supports registered ECC memory, but that is probably why it is cheap.

Ein Traum *g*

daywalker2806, geizhals.de
22 November 2011
  • Summary: Läuft auf einem ASUS P8B-WS mit 16GB Kingston ECC-Ram und einem Noctua NH-D14 Kühler. Ist eine ideale Workstation-Kombination. Performance ist hervorragend (8 Threads mit 3,5GHz Turbo) :) ... und das Feature-Set (ECC, VT-x, VT-d,...) sehr nützlich. Uneingeschränkt zu empfehlen!!!
