Great low wattage CPU

Robert H., Newegg
27 May 2014
  • Pros: This is a great CPU for my home media server. The low wattage helps cut my electric consumption. The CPU runs cool which keeps the servers noise down while still having plenty of power for my tasking.
  • Cons: Expensive compared to other higher wattage CPUs.

Fantastic ultra low power cpu

bani, Amazon
27 July 2013
  • Summary: Recently built a VM server to consolidate a bunch of machines in the house. This is a fantastic CPU, it's amazing how much performance you get from so little power. VMs blaze along, yet all the cooling fans stay nearly idle. This is NOT a budget processor though. It's rather expensive.

Decent CPU

Christopher S., Newegg
7 April 2013
  • Summary: I figured that with a TDP of just 45W, the stock cooler would be sufficient, but I was wrong. The heatsink is only about a 1/2" tall (much shorter than their regular CPU coolers), and the fan is pretty loud.
  • Pros: Low TDP The usual Intel CPU stuff
  • Cons: Horrible stock cooler

Great Processor

Scott, Amazon
29 March 2013
  • Summary: I just built a new computer for myself. A M-Atx z77 chip-set system with 32 gigs of ram. I intended to get a 17-3770T processor but in researching cpu compatibility with my motherboard found that this xeon processor is identical to the consumer level i7 and listed as directly compatible with my...

Great low power, high performance cpu

Jacob K., Newegg
8 September 2012
  • Summary: Hard to find many of the other low power cpus which are not sold boxed. For the ultra-compact systems ECC ddr3 so-dimms are impossible to find, full size are common and getting cheaper every day. I can test with plain cheap ram, but production will have to go with ECC.
  • Pros: Idles down low power nicely, runs cool, still quite fast. 4C8T ivy bridge with all features enabled makes for a killer embedded platform. Testing this for a fanless prototype. Running a 30" monitor off such a tiny box is fun: I hide it behind, fire up some workspace programs and people ask me whe...
  • Cons: Paying to run slower feels wrong, would rather have 1 cpu with multiple power options to choose from in BIOS. The mobile versions have this "configurable TDP" though its usually set and locked at factory to fit within cooling constraints, otherwise people might melt a 11" laptop. Not as big a pro...

  • Summary: It's expensive but it was a worthy upgrade for my HP Microserver Gen8 which can now cope with everything I throw at it.
