Nice CPU for a HTPC

Anonymous, Amazon
2 July 2015
  • Summary: Runs very cool and very quiet. Plenty of power for a HTPC. The CPU fan is the only fan in my system and it is not audible outside of the computer case.

Rare combination of great specs, fast benchmarks and low power.

  • Summary: This processor fills a rare niche. It has nearly double the performance of CPUs like the 53 watt Intel Haswell G1820 while having a TDP of only 35 watts. You also get several other features not found in the lesser Celeron and Pentium (non-i3) processors.

  • Summary: Nice lower power processor., I used the Noctua Low-Profile Quiet CPU Cooler for Intel 115x Based Retail Cooling NH-L9I with it. Over all very quiet and cool running. Just check the max ram speed it will handle if you get one like this.

  • Summary: This is a low power (35 W TDP) processor from Intel. Its base clock speed of 2.9 GHz, which is essentially guaranteed with the stock cooler, is surprisingly fast. In single-threaded performance, the i3 trails faster Haswell SKUs by only about 33%.

  • Summary: Pros: 35W TDP is very nice. The integrated graphics are even really good for general tasks. Cons: I was going for a REALLY quiet mini-itx build, But the OEM fan is rather loud. The PC is VESA mounted on the back of the monitor, and you can hear the bearings.

Low Power High Performance

Water Dog "lake tech", Amazon

  • Summary: Good performance to power ratio. Used to create a low power home server. Drives, this processor and the SH87R6 shuttle case/mb combo clocked in at 26Watts idle. Data crunching is very reasonable for such low power and low heat output.
