pretty pretty good

Angel B., Newegg
21 December 2013
  • Pros: This CPU has withstood the test of time. Hasn't failed me so far. Didn't boot when overclocked though so I had to default it to stock speed. I'm taking off an egg for that; then again it could have just been me messing up and not the CPU.
  • Cons: Seems like it heats up pretty easily even when not overclocked but I guess that's more of a heatsink problem. Wish the stock heatsink would have been a little better?

Great

Elbert D., Newegg
27 November 2010
  • Summary: I OC'd it to 3.8ghz with the stock fan/heatsink and get very low temperatures. A cool and efficient CPU!
  • Pros: Really top-tier performance!
  • Cons: It was a little pricey, but all i7s are...they'll be affordable before long.

As advertised

Allen J., Newegg
22 October 2010
  • Summary: I will be replacing the cooling unit with the Cooler Master V8. This cooler came in in the bundle purchase from Newegg. I installed the stock cooler because I wanted to compare it with the Cooler Master. 4 eggs: Price, cooler
  • Pros: Runs as advertised
  • Cons: Price, poor cooling unit

beautiful

James A., Newegg
21 October 2010
  • Summary: I bought this cpu simply because the chipset supports x16 / x16 dual mode for multi GPUs and also supports triple channel ram. If you aren't an enthusiast and aren't looking to use multiple graphics cards, I recommend taking a step or two down on the CPU.
  • Pros: powerful and runs cool. Idling at 33c - 35c and jumps to 60c - 65c under full load using a cheap after market cooler. OCs well, but you likely won't need to do any of that. This chip goes beyond what is necessary for most people.
  • Cons: the price and the terrible stock cooler (was idling at 40+c and 70-80c under full load!) I recommend throwing the stock cooler in the garbage and picking up an aftermarket. The LGA 1366 mobos are also pretty expensive.

Speed is awesome, stock fan sucks

William P., Newegg
18 October 2010
  • Summary: Overall its a great CPU, just not a great heatsink, if you can buy a better one DO. if you can go liquid cooled, that is preferred. lightning fast though.
  • Pros: this CPU is incredibly fast, i have never had a problem running with this. It was easy to install, and works well.
  • Cons: This puts out a lot of heat, and for the amount of cash i am spending on it, the stock heatsink is complete garbage. I can get about 75% usage on the CPU before i get to over 95C (thats rather hot). I used a new heatsink and it works great though. I would not mind just not paying for a heatsink a...

Great processor, price is NOT RIGHT

Cecilia B., Newegg
17 October 2010
  • Summary: Fantastic processor, the price on newegg is quite off, though.
  • Pros: Intel makes great processors, there's no doubt about that. This processor is ridiculously good.
  • Cons: You can find this processor 80$ CHEAPER at a computer store. The next step up, the 950, is only 10$ more.

Great CPU

John H., Newegg
3 October 2010
  • Summary: If you have studied up on this CPU, it is as everyone says. I did not even OC it at first because my new system at stock is as fast as my e8200 dual core at 3.9Ghz. Just plan on getting an after market cooler and throw the stock one away.
  • Pros: Have it running at 3.6Gb at 1.25v. No problem. Will try more.
  • Cons: That #$%%# stock Intel cooler - Could not get it to seat properly and discovered that the first two weeks the CPU going over 90C. I finally figured out what I was doing wrong. I thought hat the pins push through then turn sideways to lock. They turn sideways to set and out to lock. Read the diagr...

Certainly a step up

Christopher S., Newegg
30 September 2010
  • Summary: Best value for the money, go up and increasing dollars gets you decreasing returns in performance. Go down and just a few extra bucks could get you a lot more power.
  • Pros: Stepping up from an Intel dual core, this was certainly a big upgrade. Has run almost anything I can throw at it with relative ease.
  • Cons: Frequently runs into the 80 C range, although not dangerous, I would prefer it be able to keep safety lower for longevity sake.

i7 930

Chris C., Newegg
15 September 2010
  • Summary: Would be great if it was below 250$ in price.
  • Pros: This CPU is fast. Powers anything I throw at it. Decent price for this beast.
  • Cons: First week I got this, it runs really hot with the stock intel heatsink. When playing Starcraft2 or WoW, or putting minimal load on it would shoot up to temps over 80deg C. Ended up buying an Corsair H50 Cooling System to replace stock HS, takes it down to a cool 40deg and about 50deg at full max...

It's a CPU, it works.

Marc M., Newegg
11 September 2010
  • Summary: AMD doesn't have a real competitor at this level, so Intel can price high.
  • Pros: Fast. Priced at the sweet spot for i7.
  • Cons: Price could be better for i7 line in general.
