FEED ME SEYMOUR

Robert W., Newegg
  • Summary: Probably one of the best processors I've ever owned. In the 3D Mark test paired with an ATI HD 7990 on stock settings it scored better than 93% of CPUs tested. This is one of the best gaming CPUs on the market currently.
  • Pros: "Nom nom nom nom nom" - The sound this thing makes as it devours any desktop application you throw at it.
  • Cons: Price - but you get what you pay for.

Great Overclocker and Single-thread performer

Adam F., Newegg
13 June 2014
  • Pros: I have this chip overclocked to a stable 4.9 Ghz. People that say you don;t have any OC headroom probaly dont have a good board or unluckily ended up with a poor quality chip. It is a great multi-tasker. With normal use I only see 3-4% with 30 tabs open in Chrome(some playing videos).
  • Cons: High Price

Fast, fast, fast

Gamma Man "soil sampler", Amazon
29 May 2014
  • Summary: This CPU is fast. I bought this for Physics Department build for a HPC in the department. It will be running particle physics simulations and possibly data analysis in the future. The 6 cores/12 threads means multiply users can be logged and compiling and running code without slowing us down.

Video Editor's Dream for the Price

PD, Amazon
26 May 2014
  • Summary: When I got the Canon 5D Mark II over 5 years ago and started immersing in video, I actually had the nerve to try and render my first HD vid on a Dell E1705 laptop. I had a gadget showing CPU temp, and when it hit 85C I knew I had to shut it down or I'd fry the laptop. Short n Sweet, I built my first pro rig in 2009 with an i7-920, then later upgraded to 950 and then 6-core 980.

  • Pros: Stupid Fast
  • Cons: High end motherboards for it can be spendy, not really a direct con though

Wickedly fast and runs cool to boot

Jaime Moreno, Amazon
18 May 2014
  • Summary: Wickedly fast and runs cool to boot. How can you not give a CPU that overclocks to 4.5 on air without any effort! Just stuck it in my new Asus Rampage IV Gene microATX 2011 mobo and stuck a cooler master Hyper 212 Evo on it and let ROG's CPU Level Up go to work and instant 4.5 on air! And even at this speed the cpu speed still only get's up to 38C! My last Intel core i7 ran at around 50C just at idle and would quickly go up to around 90C trying any overclocking!

6 cores and fast

Grimmace "Grimmace", Amazon
17 May 2014
  • Summary: Great CPU, fast with 6 cores and you can overclock it. Handles everything you can throw at it likes it's nothing. If your not using VM's etc just leave the Hyper-threading off, it won't help for gaming. Should last a long time before needing to upgrade again. Expensive, but worth it.

Expensive, but worth it if you do 3D/Video

Matt B., Newegg
16 May 2014
  • Summary: Its fast, but you won't see any performance gains for day-to-day tasks or gaming when compared to a Quad Core. This CPU is meant for people doing video editing, encoding, and 3D design.
  • Pros: -FAST
  • Cons: None
