Summary: If you have one you're using, keep it because the 4690K isn't much of an upgrade = waste of money. If you're building a new system, go with socket 1150 simply due to current cost and availability of quality mobos. I docked 2 eggs simply due to obsolescence.
Pros: Great cpu. Runs surprisingly cool - according to the mobo utility. Never goes over 53 C. Usually high 40s in 3d gaming. Idles high 20s with cooler such as Black Knight. It has no performance flaws and is faster in games than ANY current consumer grade AMD chip - I WAS an AMD fanboi in the day.
Cons: Try finding a nice socket 1155 mobo -especially mATX. They are all over-priced. The availability is going away. You can find some on eBai but that is risky business. Basically it's obsolete. It's been made that way by Intel due to their new CPUs not being backward compatible with earlier sockets ...
Summary: I did not want to give a rating of out of 5 so i just picked 3 to finish this. This CPU worked great but is now dead. The motherboard is fine All the other hardware works but for some reason this CPU is not working anymore. so sad. never even got to use a good cooler with it.
Pros: Fast. and it is fast. what else can I say it is a great CPU.
Summary: It is a good cpu for a game rig, runs steady at 4.1 ghz, but challengng to get higher with no blue screens.
Pros: Run fast single thread
Cons: Well, it was a mistake to get it as i ended up getting i7-3770k, for games i5 stone was fine, but as i had to run VMs and multithread processes i5 is nowhere near to i7 8 cores. Also i7 overclocked effortlessly to 4.3ghz.
Summary: I owned an i5-2500k, but turned out to be defective. Needed a quick replacement and opted for this as it was cheaper than the 2500k with the sale. At stock, temps are definitely higher than previous gen chip.
Pros: Latest Generation, Low power chip, Better performance
Cons: Generates more heat, Lower OC limits due to heat, Not worth the upgrade for current (previous gen) i5 'k' series users
Summary: Bought this to anchor my new build after upgrading from a Q9550-based system. I'm sure that in extreme gaming it stands up far better than the old Core2, but in everyday applications I havn't noticed the 'night and day' difference that so many reviewers seem to experience.
Summary: Box arrived a little worse for wear which immediately raised some suspicions that the product had been tampered with i.e. was a refurb/2nd hand and not new. The CPU itself had some small scuff marks on it which also fed these suspicions. The product itself seems to work fine.
