Power for value

Shawn A., Newegg

  • Summary: This process ran better than my AMD FX-6100 as far as gaming goes. I Purchased two refurbished units for $20 Killer deal.
  • Pros: Extremely Cheap an very powerful. Can run games like Fallout 4 and Shadows of Mordor without a problem.
  • Cons: Hard to find a reasonable price LGA1156 socket Mother Board.

so happy with this processor

Ernest C., Newegg
20 September 2014
  • Summary: i've had this processor since 2011 and still using it now every single day. for pc gaming, i play mostly older ones or ones that aren't too demanding (gta: sa, miami hotline, braid, fez...) and it works fine. but where this overclocked processor shines is pcsx2 emulation.
  • Pros: got a windows experience of 7.0 out of the box. overclocked to 4.2 ghz (1.3 v) and got a 7.3. very stable at 4.2 ghz but haven't explored much beyond that. oc'ed runs 31C idle and 58-60C at full load with the cooler master hyper 212 evo push only.
  • Cons: only 2 cores and i knew this going in, but at the price and my usage it's not a big deal.

  • Cons: Slowly outdated with 2 cores

Great Low Voltage Overclocking!

Eldon E., Newegg
17 July 2012
  • Summary: Nice price, OCs easily, does SuperPi 1M in ~9.7sec. @ 4.2GHz, runs cool with stock HSF, great gaming performance when paired with a midrange GPU (such as a GTX560), really can't imagine a better price:performance ratio than this.
  • Pros: Default voltage specified as 1.265v on box, but mine will do 4.0 GHz (24x 167fsb) with just 1.216v, and 4.3 GHz with 1.248v, easily under the thermal limits using the stock heatsink/fan.
  • Cons: Not a con for this CPU, but note that this is the last of the overclockable i3 series chips from Intel, as the newer generation (Sandy Bridge & Ivy Bridge) i3 processors unfortunately cannot be OC'd.

Amazing CPU

Steven S., Newegg
7 April 2012
  • Summary: I haven't owned a Intel product since an old Pentium III 1.13ghz Tualatin. But I can honestly say I will be switching back. Comparing this CPU to all my AMD cpus that I have had over the year, none have even come close to the i3-550s rare power at stock, and overclocked.
  • Pros: Just an amazing CPU. Period. Currently have clocked 4.3ghz @ 1.33v paired with a Auss P7H55-M Pro board. Stays between 50-53C in prime under an old Zalman CNPS9500 with decent airflow. I really can't say enough how impressed with this CPU I am. Even though its a dual core, this baby will devour m...
  • Cons: Can't give 6 eggs.
