Nearly 6 years later and still running

Justin R., Newegg
28 July 2014
  • Summary: Well worth the asking price, you'll need a much more decent cooler than just the off the market $20 cooler however if you want to do any serious over-clocking, which is technically what the Extreme moniker is designated for.
  • Pros: Still running beautifully after 6 years of ownership, has yet to show any signs of age, it has unlocked multiplier so it is much easier to over-clock than normal Intel Core 2 processors. Runs almost as fast, sometimes just as fast as the Nehalem Intel Core i7's in most games. Have it running at 3...
  • Cons: Needs a lot more voltage to reach a certain clock speed compared to the newer revision although non-multiplier unlocked, Q9650. Also like most Core 2 Quad processors, it runs very hot in comparison to the Core 2 Duos

Power

Ricardo Arredondo, Amazon
28 December 2013
  • Summary: Well really old processor for the price, but back when this was top of the line the price was on $1200s and this is the best processor for my current motherboard, so I'm happy with it

Still chugging away after all this time.

Don J., Newegg
30 August 2013
  • Summary: Bought mine in November of 2008 just before the next generation of Intel CPUs were to be released. I walked into a local bog-box store retailer one day and saw a hand-written sign advertising the QX9650 for 50% off retail price. I couldn't pass it up!
  • Pros: I've been running this CPU in my DFI Lan Party X48 T3-RS motherboard at 3.83GHz (water cooled) for nearly five years now. It won't die. It's faster than the "new" Xeon workstation I have at work. The most satisfying purchase I've made in a CPU.
  • Cons: I'll admit, it's getting a bit long in tooth. Time to upgrade! :)

Working since 07 March 2008-20,554 hours of operation

Anonymous, Newegg
15 May 2013
  • Summary: Originally cost me 797 Euro. I'd say it was well worth the money. We 'll see how long it will last. Planning to relegate this rig to a Folding@Home dedicated rig after I upgrade to Haswell later this year.
  • Pros: My CPU has completed exactly 20,554 hours of operation as of today (May 15,2013). I only overclocked it in 2012. It works at 3.92 GHz, Loadline Calibration off, at a BIOS voltage of 1.455V and a load voltage of 1.37-1.38V. This CPU is very capable, I am playing WoW and SWTOR at max settings 1920X...
  • Cons: It wasn't free.

Excellent price for an NOS CPU!!

Amazon Customer, Amazon
23 April 2013
  • Summary: It arrived a day earlier than expected. It IS new (new, old stock) or, considering the amazing price, maybe an unused pull? It included a genuine Intel Core 2 Extreme heatsink, which was not mentioned. Has been testing for the past couple days and it's working perfectly!

It works just fine.

PDXborn, Amazon
4 April 2013
  • Summary: Upgraded an old Q6600 with HDD to this CPU and a new SSD. Windows score went from 5.9 (harddrive limit) to 7.4 (CPU limit). Most people don't realize they don't need a new computer, just need to update a few parts to remove the bottleneck. For those that marked down based on used status.... Really?

  • Summary: I was even able to overclock it somewhat. It came with its own cooling fan as well. Tha fan was either new or like new.
