Sempron 3400+

  • Summary: Retail packaging of processors include the processor, heat sink and a high quality fan. If you buy OEM packaged processors, you get the processor only, and usually the packing is not protective enough. The power cord on the fan is more than adequate in length.
  • Pros: Excellent Processor for the price. Retail packaging as opposed to OEM is by far the better choice.
  • Cons: The BIOS on my motherboard does not identify the model of the processor during Power On Self Test (POST).

  • Summary: I went from a PIII and difference is huge. Windows XP installed a lot quicker, apps loaded faster and multitasking is now possible. I had difficulty getting the two latches from the heatsink onto the motherboard and I couldn't get the camhandle into the closed position but the latches still prevent...
  • Pros: Fast, cool (in both terms)
  • Cons: S754 if you plan on upgrading

  • Summary: I purchased the Sempron 3400+ for a low cost media center PC. I've had an Athlon 64 3000+ in my main computer for about half a year now and wanted something with similar performance. Even though this chip has half the cache of my Athlon 64 (only 256KB), it appears to perform just as well.
  • Pros: Blazing Fast
  • Cons: Socket 754

  • Summary: Processor does all the tasks I set before it without any problems. Things zip along. I use this processor for an HDTV video server that serves and plays recorded HDTV content and it is smooth as butter. Highly recommended!
  • Pros: Powerful
  • Cons: Only has 256KB cache and is on socket 754

  • Excerpt: It's low (35 watt) power consumption makes it an ideal candidate for a media player computer, an office computer or for browsing the internet. I've tested one of this processors, and it performed very well in every day tasks, but it also had it's not-so-well performances.
  • Pros: Price, low power consumption
  • Cons: Small L2 cache
