Summary: I built a basic system for a friend around this processor and an AOpen motherboard with Via chipset. It was by far the easiest build I've ever done. While much of that was due to the outstanding design of the AOpen board and manuals, this processor really impresses with its speed on the Windows 2000 OS. The included heatsink/fan works flawlessly. However, although it will get the job done, it's far too noisy to take seriously.
Pros: Fantastic performance upgrade for older Socket A motherboards
Cons: Included heatsink fan is too noisy; Not 64 bit capable (obviously)
Summary: Installed my Athlon 2400+ in a Gigbyte 7N400S-L with Chaintech Volari V3 & 512 MB of memory. Came up first time and runs great. I have purchased a number of this combo for projects at work and like how easy they are to assemble and bring up. Compared to the older Pentium series with jumpers for voltages and speeds, setup is a breaze. Just set the CLK_SW to ON and everything but the FSB speed is handled automatically. Just enter the BIOS and set the FSB and your finished.
Pros: In expensive and easy to install
Cons: Not as fast as a 64 bit machine, but who can gripe for the price.
Summary: This CPU kit is very easy to install. It didn’t exhibit any incompatibility with my motherboard. So far it runs smoothly in my PC which runs almost 24 hours a day, 30 days a month, continuously. I like this kit.
Excerpt: I started building PCs a few years back and have been brand loyal to AMD for many reasons, Customer Service is fantastic, The processors are fantastic, the prices for the processors are also...fantastic. Compared to Intel: These processors are here for the budgeters. The people who want computers for rock bottom prices. This processor is head to head with Intels Celeron processor, both of which AMD and Intel of various running speeds for these processors.
Excerpt: I decided it was time for an upgrade, my computer was getting slower by the day it seemed. I started to look round for what was in my budget which wasn't a hell of a lot around £300 and for this i wanted to get a Motherboard, Processor, RAM and new Graphics card. I went into a shop called Maplin whose staff were very helpfull in weighing up my options. I found a make called Sempron which i had never herd of, but as it was made by AMD my mind was immediately put at ease.
Pros: Cheap, Extremely Cheap, AMD technology, Great for basic computers
Pros: Makkelijk overklockbaar, stabiel
