Performance wise we were hoping to see a little more out of the new AMD Phenom II X6 processors. Although the Core i7 980 XE already proved that most applications and games are not ready for six dedicated cores, it was still for the most part faster than a similarly clocked quad-core Core i7 processor. Ever since Intel launched their Core i7 (and later Core i5) CPUs, AMD have been left needing to compete on pricing and the like rather than outright performance - Hardly an unsurprising state of affairs given Intel's traditional dominance of top-notch manufacturing processes and engineering, but it still left a lot of enthusiasts wanting for more, despite AMD succeeding in tempting some with the lure of unlocked multipliers on their Black Edition CPUs. This has been a process for me, my first build. I play online games and this took all the NPC's off coffee break (the tome it took my old PC to load the surrounding area). I was disappointed that the item had been reboxed but I think this was the transportation and not the shipper. I has only been a few weeks but smooth sailing for now. Read more

It says 3.2 Ghz - but my Sabertooth 990fx picked it up at 3.8 Ghz. Maybe it's just an overclock profile that the board loads up automatically, but either way, this chip is amazing, and is very stable at higher clock settings. Read more

I upgraded from an AMD 1055t to the faster AMD 1090t to achieve better results in folding@home which I do 24/7 on two AMD x6 1090 processors in two machines. Instead of going to the much hyped (and failed IMO) Bulldozer series, I stayed with what I already knew worked. Using the Asus Turbo V EVO Overclocking utility I am able to Overclock to 3.76Ghz on one system and 3.712Ghz on the newest system. Read more

In March, it was Intel's turn, and this month, it's AMD's. That's right, we're at the point when Phenom II X6's are hitting the market and giving consumers a much less expensive six-core CPU to chose from. We're taking a look at AMD's top-end offering, the 1090T BE, and also a brief look at the company's new 890FX chipset. Read more
