Powerful processor with potencial for overclock to 4.2GHz
9 September 2014
Summary: Im very satisfied with this processor. I upgraded from AMD Phenom II x4 920(2,8GHz). On idle it runs at 800MHz. All cores split up the workload. I've read on reviews from different overclockers that it can be clocked up to 4,2GHz stable, some reached 4,4GHz but that system was not stable. So if you consider to overclock this processor I would recommend that you go for 4,2GHz maximum.
Nice crisp response, for a reasonable cost, good value for the money!

Summary: Upgraded from a 940 to a 980, installation was seamless, only additional requirement was upgrading the Asus bios on my motherboard to the latest iteration. The processor makes a noticeable jump in response. Since I am not a gamer, this is a nice but do-able modification. I could have put in an X6 1100 chip, but again I am not a gamer, (the cost for the X6 1100 was really not worth the price difference) and I am running an older Asus M4A78 Pro with a AM2+/AM3 socket.
Summary: So happy to have upgraded to this processor. I shouldn't have to touch a computer upgrade again until next decade! The speed, power and performance are unreal! Can't wait to be able to work this with my new Radeon HD 6950 GPU and see what real gaming excitement looks like!
Summary: I'd been running a 910 processor and I needed some more processing power, but couldn't afford a new MoBoard plus a processor. The down side is that this puppy is expensive. Even more expensive than the current crop of AMD processors which are way more powerful. It was even more expensive than the Intell i5 processor.
Summary: After struggling for 3 hours with installation I finally managed to boot my PC succesfully :) For some unknown reason it didn't want to POST at all at first in Crosshair IV Formula mainboard, but now it's running smoothly at 4,1 Ghz on air cooling. Great CPU.
Summary: So I started buidling my wife a new computer and she doesn't need anything spectacular so I gave her my Phenom II 965 and upgraded mine to the 980. The only pro to this over the older chips is that you can OC to 4.0 without any hassle or worries of over heating. This paired with an Asus EVO board makes it very easy to overclock and with the turbo unlocker included with that board you can easily push it to 4.1 on command without any tweeks needed.
