Great CPU, TERRIBLE Fan
13 April 2013
Summary: I play online games (MMOs) and have a decent mid-range setup and once my game gets going the fan kicks up to super noisy speed. It whines more than a 2 year old. Buy a good cooler and ditch the stock that comes with.
Summary: I bought this processor to complete a gaming system. The install was pretty straight forward. Unfortunately, as soon as the installation was completed., a horrific whining sound came from the fan/heat sink! AMD has offered to replace the whole processor or the fan! I am not sure what avenue I am going to pursue, but, the noise is too much.
Summary: So, this may only happen to one in so many, or maybe not. I bought the 965 already being the owner of the 955 model. This particular 965 comes with a Cooler-Master branded cooling device. The previous one had an AMD branded one. The cooler is like this one: http://www.amazon.com/Cooler-Master-AM2-AM3-CPU/dp/B004X5TGO4/ref=sr_1_31?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1344969366&sr=1-31&keywords=coolermaster+CPU+cooler Its not a bad design, but the fan itself is terrible.
Summary: I had hoped that this would be a step up (in terms of cooling and noise) from the cube-shaped stock AMD cooler that came with my Phenom II chip. Sadly, while it did shave a couple of degrees off of the temperature, it had a noticeable high-pitched whine that was louder than the smaller stock cooler.
Summary: i love the AMD phenom2x4 965 but it didnt come with the fan the description didnt say it was an OEM that was hidden so im a little angry over them not being fully honest with there add.I still would have bought it but i wouldnt have expected the fan with it an then have to call to see what happened.
Excerpt: Bought this CPU with the ASUS M4A78T-E motherboard. Tried for a week to install Windows 7 Home 74-bit. Kept crashing. After fighting with it for a week, I found others on the internet having the exact same problem. Switched to the ASUS P7P55D Pro board and the Intel core I5 750 chip and have had no problems. I am a loyal AMD fan, but in this case Intel wins.
Zocken geht prima!
