Great CPU, TERRIBLE Fan

JamesNAmanda, Amazon
13 April 2013
  • Summary: I play online games (MMOs) and have a decent mid-range setup and once my game gets going the fan kicks up to super noisy speed. It whines more than a 2 year old. Buy a good cooler and ditch the stock that comes with.

Fan is waaaay too noisy for a hard core gamers.

HuskyBuc, Amazon
8 October 2012
  • Summary: I bought this processor to complete a gaming system. The install was pretty straight forward. Unfortunately, as soon as the installation was completed., a horrific whining sound came from the fan/heat sink! AMD has offered to replace the whole processor or the fan! I am not sure what avenue I am going to pursue, but, the noise is too much.

Love the chip, hate the cooler!

SM_TJ_S, Amazon
14 August 2012
  • Summary: So, this may only happen to one in so many, or maybe not. I bought the 965 already being the owner of the 955 model. This particular 965 comes with a Cooler-Master branded cooling device. The previous one had an AMD branded one. The cooler is like this one: http://www.amazon.com/Cooler-Master-AM2-AM3-CPU/dp/B004X5TGO4/ref=sr_1_31?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1344969366&sr=1-31&keywords=coolermaster+CPU+cooler Its not a bad design, but the fan itself is terrible.

low price is less attractive when aftermarket fan is a must

Andrew Hunter King "ElMonstroPorFavor", Amazon
16 July 2012
  • Summary: While this processor is great for the money, the stock heat sink/fan is practically a leafblower in both noise level and tone. It's essentially unusable.

Louder than the stock cooler

rwburnhamiv, Ebay
10 April 2011
  • Summary: I had hoped that this would be a step up (in terms of cooling and noise) from the cube-shaped stock AMD cooler that came with my Phenom II chip. Sadly, while it did shave a couple of degrees off of the temperature, it had a noticeable high-pitched whine that was louder than the smaller stock cooler.

This is the 140w NOT the 125w CPU

M. Dawe "Disapointed", Amazon
23 December 2009
  • Summary: The tech details are wrong for this processor. If you have any concerns about power usage DO NOT buy it. This is the first release not the revised unit.

Do not buy for Windows 7!

Guido, pricebat.ca
29 March 2010
  • Excerpt: Bought this CPU with the ASUS M4A78T-E motherboard. Tried for a week to install Windows 7 Home 74-bit. Kept crashing. After fighting with it for a week, I found others on the internet having the exact same problem. Switched to the ASUS P7P55D Pro board and the Intel core I5 750 chip and have had no problems. I am a loyal AMD fan, but in this case Intel wins.

Preis-Leistung ok

L. L., Amazon
8 August 2013
Zocken geht prima!
