Excellent $10 upgrade for an older system

jwr5656, Ebay
5 March 2012
  • Summary: I purchased this processor to upgrade an older computer that I built 8 years ago. My original plan was to build a new PC, but when I evaluated my needs, I realized I could address my current issues without building a new machine since I use Linux. This processor arrived quickly and in good condition. I installed it and it has been working without any problems. It is a used pull and was properly identified.

  • Summary: i found the chipset very easy to install in my new elitegroup motherboard.i would reccomend this chip to anyone who is looking for a very easy installation.i have had the chip in my computer for about 6 months with no problems.i have not attempted to over clock it; i heard that they aren't as easy as others. all in all it is a very good product and i look foreward to what AMD has to offer.

Read up on this one first.

Amazon
26 April 2005
  • Summary: AMD makes a bunch of processors. Some are better than others. This one is affordable, but don't plan on doing much overclocking with this one! I got one up to 1917MHz before toasting it and my board too. My Athlon XP 2400+ does much better. Do your homework if you are planning on building a system. AMD revised the Thoroughbred chip design and added some layers to them. Get the next version, it's a better chip.

Overclocking caveat

Nick H. "sea_otter", Amazon
26 April 2005
  • Summary: If you're looking at this CPU, odds are you are looking at it for its overclocking potential. Do some research first. AMD is famous for its overclock-ability, but this chip is a little more tough to overclock than some of the others they make. A lot of folks prefer the 2100+ to this, but I disagree. I think this chip just has a bad rep and takes a little more experimenting to find the right settings. I've got mine up to 1.9gig, and am only just getting the hang of it.

Makes my computer freeze up!!

Amazon Customer, Amazon
25 April 2005
  • Summary: I ordered this cpu because I got a used amd motherboard from another website and that only had a 900MHz AMD Cpu. This cpu is actually slower than the original one that was installed in my motherboard cpu. It freezes up everytime you use the internet and the cpu runs hot over 70.C. Then the cpu quit working and burned a hole through my motherboard! And now I have a non-working motherboard and a defective cpu! Do not buy. Buy a newer cpu model that actually works.
