  • Summary: If you're looking to build a mini ITX gaming PC and want 4 cores, get this. I wanted a Phenom II x4, but my CPU wattage allowance was only 45W so I went with this. I was ordering it with dread until I watched some stress tests on youtube and saw what this CPU is capable of. Do not hesitate.
  • Pros: I'm a Mini ITX enthusiast. This processor only requires 45W and it is a beast. 2.4 GHZ at 45W is astounding. I've stressed tested this CPU running a game, rendering a hi def video, downloading a song, and streaming a 1080p movie and not one core hit 100%. I'm using an Akasa low profile heatsink f...

Quad core at 45W

  • Pros: Quad core at 45 watts. What more can you ask for? Everything seems to be working great with it. Handles all the tasks that I've thrown at it so far.
  • Cons: None really

Cooool

Christopher G., Newegg

  • Summary: I bought this CPU for my HTPC as recommended by MaximumPC.com and have been pleased ever since. 2.4Ghz @ 45W is perfect for an HTPC. Paired with a Radeon HD 5770 and is great for gaming as well.
  • Pros: Very cool, remains quiet under load (with stock heatsink & fan), low power usage, great for HTPC.
  • Cons: None

  • Pros: 45W Quad core - what else could you want? I have two quad core machines(other 65W CPU) running idle at 140W.
  • Cons: It's not the 615e or 620e. Wouldn't mind the higher clock cycles. I guess the Athalon cache sizes are smaller, but I doubt I'll notice it.

  • Pros: Stays very cool, even under load.
  • Cons: Stock fan's a little loud for my taste, probably going to replace with a quieter one, maybe a different heatsink.

Bang for the Buck if you can get it

Anonymous, Newegg

  • Summary: Note that the 615e is now out (2.5 GHz instead of 2.4) at a slightly higher price. Sadly, Newegg doesn't carry this one yet but if you're looking for it the PRO might be to have another VANTAGE point.
  • Pros: Low power consumption in a quad core, ideal for my always-on VMWare server.
  • Cons: A bit high-priced compared to its 95w counterpart which I have installed in a desktop. However, for a server that is always on I'll take the power savings.

The Egg didn't have the 610e.

  • Summary: This is a neglected family room machine, running in an unventilated cabinet that simply MUST stay quiet and keep itself alive. Low-power/ high-efficiency/ high-quality components and decent integrated graphics do the trick. This is a C3 stepping CPU.
  • Pros: Like Mark (10/8/2010), this processor nicely replaced a working 45W 5050e in an AM2+ Socket. Both CPU's showed idle and max-load power draw of 40W and 81W on a "Kill A Watt" meter from the wall plug. However, routine use showed a significant power reduction, as this CPU has much more headroom tha...
  • Cons: Couldn't get it from the Egg and payed more elsewhere. It sure would have been nice to know NewEgg was going to stock it -- might have waited for it and saved money, too.

4 core, fast, cool N quiet

Mark T., Newegg
8 October 2010
  • Summary: there should be more CPU's and motherboards that are tuned for reduced power consumption while keeping reasonable performance!
  • Pros: I bought this to replace an AMD 2 core 5050e chip that I used for a few years Efficient, low power CPU that is fast enough for everything I do. Even though its been running 100% load 24/7 for months on WorldCommunityGrid project, the fan runs slow so the computer is quiet.
  • Cons: may not be a crunching powerhouse but it does everything I need
