Conclusion: The AMD Athlon 64 3000+ is one fast processor. Throughout testing, everything was stable and very smooth. Compared to my old Athlon XP processor, the AMD Athlon 64 3000+ provided smooth games than before (before was jerky), applications opened faster and provided smooth processor execution, and the practical things I do were way faster. CPU temperatures also surprised me because they were right there with the previous generation of temperatures.
Pros: Fast, Cool’n’Quiet technology, Low temperatures, IHS to prevent damaged cores, Bang for the buck pricing
Cons: A new socket with dual channel DDR is near and this one is single channel only
Excerpt: The AMD Athlon 64 series are very powerful and very good quality chips. They provide some of the strongest performance that can be found today. This one is my pick for the fastest processor I would get, at time of writing.
Excerpt: Wondering what you kind of performance can expect from the cheapest Athlon 64 processor from AMD? As usual, AMD does not disappoint with its bargain (relatively speaking) high-end chip. Read this review to see how it performs against the 3200+, which is clocked the same but has twice the L2 cache.
Summary: It sounds trite to say, but the Athlon 64 3000+ performs about like one might expect a 2GHz AMD Hammer processor with 512K of L2 cache to perform. That is, it's an exceptional performer for 3D gaming, and it has few weaknesses overall. Versus the Pentium 4 3GHz, the A64 3000+ is a very good value. The difference between the Athlon 64 3000+ and 3200+ hinges entirely on the usefulness of the larger 1MB L2 cache on the 3200+ model.
Excerpt: The 3400+ processor released today is one that we have been expecting since the initial release of the Athlon 64 3200+ and the Athlon 64 FX-51 processor. Running at 2.2 GHz with a full 1 MB of L2 cache, the 3400+ is the next-step upgrade to the original Athlon 64 core.
AMD Athlon 64 3000+ CPU Review: AMD64 to the Masses!
28 December 2003
Summary: We tested a new AMD processor based on AMD64 architecture and targeted for the mainstream market. The major advantage of this processor is the price, which is just slightly above $200, while the performance is very nice. Let’s find out if this new attractive offer from AMD can compete successfully with the rivalry products.
