Bought for a custom Media Center

Jason B., Newegg
3 December 2015
  • Summary: I bought this for a media center build in my front room.
  • Pros: Great CPU and GPU setup for a media center! Kodi runs fast with it without need of additional GPU. DX11 Runs on Windows 7/10 Runs on Linux (though depending on distribution you may need to do things to get AMD working properly).
  • Cons: None

Update. HOT!!!

Matthew B., Newegg
13 November 2015
  • Summary: I ended up retiring this system after 2.5 years because I couldn't game with it without the system randomly rebooting due to overheating issues. I even tied a massive Silverstone AR02 and still overheats and dies.
  • Pros: "quad core" performance. Decently fast. Can game on low to low/medium settings on DX11 games.
  • Cons: This thing runs HOT. In my original review, I said it ran fine gaming, but I had turbo boost/turbo core turned OFF and locked the multiplier at 36x. When I turn on turbo core using a stock AMD APU cooler or a Cooler Master vortex style AMD FX cooler, the system dies in 2 mins at full turbo. When ...

Great APU!

Jeff I., Newegg
15 June 2015
  • Summary: Some reviewers have stated that the unit gets hot with the stock cooler, with one even saying that it was over 90°C, which is simply NOT possible. The processor will shut down if it gets to 80°C, and begins throttling as low as 60°C.
  • Pros: Temperature stays low even with stock cooler, and ridiculous OC potential. Price was cheap when I bought.
  • Cons: It is a bit of a power hog compared to newer technology, but it isn't terrible. Some programs (including BIOS) do not read the temperature correctly.

"Iffy"2.0

Michael P., Newegg
22 April 2015
  • Pros: It's AMD and it posts
  • Cons: It's WAY TO HOT! I got a replacement from AMD and it runs hotter than the first. It's unknown to me how to get the temps down as low as the 5 egg reviews are getting. This one hits 92c just being on with a liquid cooling unit! I must have gotten 2 made on a Monday. I'll go back to Athlon CPUs...n...

"Iffy"

Michael P., Newegg
4 April 2015
  • Summary: I've tried an Athlon proc with the same boards and it only hits 43c with "Diablo"
  • Pros: It's AMD and I question THAT!
  • Cons: HOT, HOT, HOT!!!!!! I've tried all my tricks to cool this thing with no luck. It idles at 75c with the stock, Zalman and even a liquid cooling unit! I swapped MOBOs...NOTHING worked! It will cause computer to shut off in approx 30 seconds at 96c with very light gaming nothing "hardcore". This is ...

Great

Cody C., Newegg
4 April 2015
  • Summary: I am very happy with this processor and would highly roccomend it to anybody looking for a cheap processor that will do good at whatever you throw at it.
  • Pros: A very good processor for the money. Using it as a apu i averaged about 45 frames on intensive games. Runs pretty cool without turbo on.
  • Cons: Runs super hot with turbo mode enabled (65 degrees Celsius on idle 90-120 degrees on load) with the stock cooler.

Really Nice

Michael S., Newegg
30 March 2015
  • Summary: What I have: 1. motherboard - Biostar Hi-Fi A88W 3D 2. cpu - AMD A8 5600K 3. cpu cooler - Cooler Master Vortex Plus CPU Cooler (RR-VTPS-28PK-R1) 4. graphics/video card - Evga Geforce gt 740 2gb gddr5 pci express 3.0 5.
  • Pros: Linux supported(Lubuntu 14.10 64 bit & Lubuntu 14.04.2 64 bit). These 2 Linux distros gave me 13-16 second boot times, from the time I pressed the power button to the time it was ready to use! Apparently this AMD A8 5600K is a very good fit with the rest of my computer. This cpu idles at about 30...
