Summary: I bought this printer for my office 4 years ago. The printer function is fine, but the scanner worked only once. I tried all kinds of things: different machines, different OS's (Windows and Mac), different cables, different drivers, different settings of scanning etc. I also contacted the customer support, which is not useful. They replied to me by a long e-mail with all trivial things.
Canon D400 series of Printers, copiers, and scanners and more
24 July 2014
Summary: The Canon D400 series is a well made, durable, all-in-one machines for small business that are functionally identical to the current Canon D500 series. The D420 is the basic printer, copier, scanner and the models D440 up to D490 add networking, fax, sheet feeders. initially, these units cost $200-500 new and were aimed at home and small business applications..... I run my patent business on two D420s and one D480; they never skip a beat.
Summary: I have owned many small laser printers, HP, Samsung, Brother, etc.....none of them held up. They all developed paper feeding issues, or the laser element burned out and was too expensive to repair. This Canon unit has been pretty much flawless, and the all-in-one toner cartridge is the best. yes it is more expensive than the other brand toner cartridge, but you don't have to worry about the laser elemnet (I can't remember what it's called) burning out.
Summary: Very difficult to figure out how to use this all-in-one's functions. The only things clearly explained in the manual are obvious things, such as how to load paper in a paper tray or how/when to press the start button. I and the neighborhood IT guru never could get the scan or fax functions to work--alone or with the computer.
Summary: I was so happy to see this machine on your site. For the last 10 years or so I have used D class Cannon copiers. They are the best. This is my favorite model. This arrived in a flimsy box. It was all beat up packaging at delivery. A few flimsy sheets of bubble wrap were protecting nothing. I saved the box and packing to ship back with this machine. It was sold by an outside vendor but packing notice makes it look like it was shipped by Amazon.
Excellent hardware Software horrible, technical support forget it

Summary: I like canon printers inkjet or laser or color or b/w. They are better than HP , Lexmark or any other brand. However this one has software problem big time especially with scanning and faxing. I am a IT pprofessional so after spending time and asking my colleages I was able to get going with scanning via USB and wireless but with my kid's MacBooks , even I wasn't able to do scanning via wireless.
Summary: While I was happy with this computer while I had windows 7. Once my computer died and I was forced to replace the motherboard and operating system (windows 7 was keyed to the motherboard)it became a door stop since there are no windows 8 drivers for this printer! If you get a new computer this printer will become useless to you. At this price that's too much of a risk.
