Love Induction but not this one

  • Summary: Induction cooking is great, I hope to never have to switch back to electric or even gas however DO NOT BUY THIS COOKTOP. Consider yourself warned. I am on my 4th tech visit. He just left with the cooktop to take it back to the shop to have others look at it. A week after installation the control board went blank. The tech came out today and got it to power up but now it is reading F47 error.

  • Summary: "When buying an induction cooktop, know what youre getting yourself into. Special cookware is required. If a magnet will not stick to your current pots and pans, you must buy new ones. Once you have all the right gear, its well worth the cost. It cooks fast and evenly with lots of control over the temperature. You can have a boiling pot of water (which doesnt take long) and the surrounding surface will be barely warm.

Do not buy!

  • Summary: Love it when it works, but... Bought cooktop at ????, but it's made and guaranteed by Whirpool. Retailer offered a free 5-year warranty, so that's why we bought there. Stopped working about 4 weeks ago (after 12 months usage) with blinking lights underneath and a burning smell. After a few days technician came out, said he needed parts and would return soon. Came back 10 days later, installed the new parts, and got the famous "F47" error.

Burned by a common defect

  • Summary: Like many of the other reviews above, got the F47 error after two months of use. Service tech could not order a new user interface board and Whirlpool is going to replace the unit. My big concern is what happens after the warranty runs out and something breaks.

Avoid it!

  • Summary: I just bought this cooktop. I AM NOT HAPPY WITH IT!!!! WHEN it works it's great, but mine does NOT work! I bought it a week ago, and used it three times before the infamous "F47 error" code popped up on the right side of the stove. I called Whirlpool customer service. They sent out a repairman, days later. He couldn't fix it, so we're waiting to order parts. Meanwhile we're stuck with the bill and inconvenience of eating out everyday until they do- NOT CHEAP!!!

Very Very Pleased!!!

  • Summary: Had never heard of induction cooking, sales person from Lowes told us about it, and we took a chance on it. Are we ever glad we did. We had to install 8 gauge wire as you need a 40 amp breaker. Luckily we were redoing our counter top and it was easy to install the wire. Years ago we cooked on gas and really missed it, induction cooking is a great alternative where you don't have a gas line leading to your cooktop.
  • Pros: High quality, fast heat, great looking
  • Cons: none so far

Scared to use it! Disappointed.

  • Summary: We bought this cooktop. Loved the look of all black and features seemed direct to the point, which they are. Heats fast. However, after the 1st use, we noticed around the burner it started to gray. It almost looks like the black underneath the bottom of the cooktop has come off. We used it a 2nd time and used a different burner, same thing. Now i am scared to death to use the other 2 burners. After 2 uses it looks like we have had the cooktop for 5 years.
  • Cons: Low quality, Not durable

We are on cooktop number 6 (six) ... poor quality!

  • Summary: We got a new kitchen with new appliances (most Whirlpool brands, e.g. Jenn-air, Maytag) in December last year. This cooktop has given us nothing but problems. It works for a few weeks, then (in 5 out of the 6 cooktops they shipped) one or both of the power supplies break and you get an error F47. What is even worse, twice the replacment parts Whirlpool sent (if they are not on backorder) were already broken out-of-the box.
