Reliability of self extinguishing ignitors uncertain.

  • Excerpt: In August '05, I installed GE JGP328SEJ1SS in one of the upscale apartments I manage where we needed to do a "designer" kitchen. The electronic ignition system is supposed to stop sparking when the flame lights. In October, after less than three months of service, the spark shut down circuit failed.
  • Pros: Cooktop looks stunning when combined with stainless steel sink and black granite.
  • Cons: Must buy the extended warrantee plan to assure avoidance of heavy repair costs.

Contractor Special

  • Excerpt: This cooktop was already installed in our new house, and I promptly replaced it with a more serious appliance. Its 9,100 BTU on the three larger burners is woefully inadequate for all but warming a saucepan of soup. If you do any wok-cooking or boil pasta, look for 12,000 BTU or more.
  • Pros: Continuous grates, sealed burners.
  • Cons: Performance inadequate for heavy-duty cooking.
