Conclusion: The Zalman Z9 Plus is a good choice for mainstream and enthusiast users alike. It has good features, and performs well during stress testing, and high temperatures. The case’s easy installation features make this a contender in the market. The anti-vibration grommets and tool-less hard drive installation is an excellent solution, as it keeps the drive from vibrating, something which many tool-less installations do not dissipate.
Summary: The Z9 Plus mid-tower case is exactly what we expect from a Zalman product. It is well built, with a sleek design that has a flawless finish. Almost every desired feature is taken into account; there is a hole in the motherboard tray to accommodate CPU cooler installations, as well as anti-vibration hard drive mounts, cable management features, a built-in fan controller, a temperature gauge, plenty of fans, and the interior paint job matches the exterior.
Pros: » Built in fan controller and temperature display, » Accepts large video cards, » Great cooling options, » Dedicated SSD mount, » Anti-vibration mounts for hard drives, » Large hole to access CPU cooler back-plate, » Painted inside and out, » Silent
Cons: » No USB 3.0, » No replaceable expansion slot covers, » Not tool-less
Summary: The Z9 Plus is a foray by Zalman into the budget gaming case market and from that perspective we consider it to be a success. It is definitely middle-of-the-road for thermal performance and build quality, but for its asking price no one expects any miracles. Fortunately, it has a few nifty features that make it standout amongst the rabble.
Pros: Support for up to seven fans (four included), Independent fan speed controller and temperature sensor, Damped hard drive bays, 29 cm graphics card clearance, Low price
Cons: Side intake makes fans sound terrible, Restrictive PSU vent, Questionable aesthetics
Summary: The Z9 Plus is a terrific option if you are looking for a case full of nice features at a very attractive price. We can’t really complain about the “weak points” listed below because of its price. For its terrific cost/benefit ratio, we are giving it our Golden Award.
Conclusion: Performance on this case is well within acceptable levels. The 4 included fans provided excellent air flow in and out of the case. The temperature on the LCD stays in the low 30s Celsius when it is put right at the base of the CPU. The fans are not loud at all. While adjusting the speed gauge, I could barely even tell the fans were running faster. The Appearance of this case is very good in my opinion. I like the sleek black look.
Pros: Great Looking, Great Price, Good Cable Management, 4 Included Zalman 120mm Fans, Feature Packed Front I/O Panel, Room for up to 7 fans
Summary: Installing all components in the Z9 Plus is easy. The supplied mounting hardware makes finding the right fasteners a breeze. The Z9 Plus comes with rubber insulators for mounting the HDD to keep any vibration to a minimum. Installing the HDD is simple - just slide it into the HDD bay of your choice the lock it down with supplied locking thumb-screw.
Pros: Great Price - Affordable MSRP, Cable Management System, Astically Pleasing, Built-in Fan Controller, Excellent Airflow
Excerpt: After examining the Z9 Plus chassis, I was very pleased to see that Zalman has addressed the vast majority of the issues I had with the Z7 series. Not only has Zalman improved cooling performance while still keeping noise in the acceptable range, they've given the interior a matching black finish for a uniform look, updated the aesthetics and added support for a couple of SSDs as well.
Excerpt: Although the Zalman Z9 Plus is cheap, we were impressed by its build quality and smoothly finished interior. Unlike many cheaper cases, it even has thumbscrews to remove the side panels. There are no USB3 ports on the front, though, which means that you'll have to add a backplate if you want to use your motherboard's USB3 header. On the plus side, there are four front panel USB ports for you to connect, alongside a fan speed controller and a temperature display.
