Quiet HTPC Case

Erick S., Newegg
24 June 2011
  • Summary: This model has a single, removable chassis for the hard drives. Some of the other SilverStone models have it split into two separate ones. This would be nice if you don't have a lot of drives to mount, as you could remove one of them from the case, creating more room for cable management, air flow,...
  • Pros: Lots of ventilation and fans. I have two 92mm fans mounted upfront with the hard drives and two 80mm fans rear mounted and the case is still plenty quiet. There's enough room so you don't really have to work to squeeze things in, though that could change if you have a lot of PCI cards. Doesn't lo...
  • Cons: The VFR died after a few months. From reading the other reviews, I'm guessing it might just have shorted to the case. I didn't really care because I wasn't using that feature and the LCD was kind of bright and distracting.

Not for a beginner

Daryl S., Newegg
5 April 2011
  • Summary: Contact tint covers the led panel to make it less glaring Loudest thing is vid cards everything else is near silent 2 different builds AMD GIGABYTE GA-890FXA-UD5 AM3 AMD Phenom II X6 1055T Thuban 2.8GHz 6-core CORSAIR XMS 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 2x GIGABYTE GV-R695D5-2GD-B Radeon HD 6950 2GB...
  • Pros: My case seems to have updates to address past complaints. VFD had anti short plastic barrier... All the space. I was able to fit two 10 inch SLI cards in one build and 2 crossfire in another. You can fit 14 SSD's in this case (20 with smaller video cards, pci and bay adapters). More room then any...
  • Cons: Not for the beginner. Took 8 hours to assemble. Everything has to be removed and put in, in order. I had the panel drag gear come off and had to remove front to reinstall, cables were re routed while it was off. After removing everything install in this order: Fans Motherboard CPU Case led and US...

  • Pros: Keeps things cool, if you have good fans in it, although this does make it a bit louder. Looks pretty good in all black.
  • Cons: If it all possible, do not use a full size mobo in this case. Yes it CAN fit, but there is almost no room for cable management, i.e. they hang out all over the place and block airflow. Btw, its big and heavy, although thats not much of a con for my case. Hook up the LED's if you like feeling your...

Sweet for at

Hondo S., Newegg
8 April 2010
  • Summary: The blu-ray player I got from the newegg bundle didn't come with Blu-Ray playing software so I had to find a program that I didn't really know would work, but thats not the cases fault haha.
  • Pros: If you plan on building yourself a media box for your HDTV I would Highly recomend this case! I bought the bundle to build it and it went togather in an aftenoon and I was watching blu-Rays flawlessly by the next night.
  • Cons: The case software and the remote could be alittle more user friendly but over all it works and isn't bad just takes some time.

HTPC Case

Angelica H., Newegg
4 January 2010
  • Summary: This came as part of a bundles package from NewEgg. I was orignally settled on the: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811163066 This is the exact same thing - but in Black and with a VF Display on the front showing text.
  • Pros: Great case with good build, easy to work with, and well thought out interior. Comes with a VFD that will work out of the box once you install the IMON software (included on the cd or grab the updated version off their website).
  • Cons: None.

Needed to RMA, but Newegg was very helpful

Anonymous, Newegg
23 September 2009
  • Summary: I chatted with a Newegg customer service rep and explained the situation. She offered a credit to allow me to go out and purchase the missing screws or an RMA to exchange the unit. I opted for the RMA to avoid the possibility of shorting out my MOBO and voiding its warranty.
  • Pros: I purchased about a dozen components from Newegg and received the entire order within 3 days, including some components that arrived the next day. As for this product, it is exceptionally well built. The doors open and close very smoothly and the outside finish is flawless. The case feels very st...
  • Cons: I was unable to secure my HDDs because the screw pack was missing. It appears I was given another customer's RMA and that customer decided to keep the screws. The standoffs for the MOBO were also missing.

great case but...

Michael L., Newegg
11 July 2006
  • Pros: great looking case for an HTPC, plenty of room for upgrades
  • Cons: be careful of the VFD shorting out. VFD shorts out on case have not repaired mine yet but hear looks like a non-conductive material will need to be placed between the VFD and the case.
