Summary: I had issues during assembly and still do kind of... Overall, I am satisfied with this case for my HTPC. It's tight because I have an SSD (main drive) and three other hard drives along with a big video card, but I got it all in there and working right. My problem was with the mounting bracket for my Bluray drive. What came with the case holds the drive too high and the drawer doesn't come through the opening and the button to eject the drawer didn't line up.
Summary: This project started after I finally decided to create a hybrid media-server/htpc/gaming rig. I chose this case because it will run 24/7 so cooling is very important. I ordered two 92mm fans and three 80mm fans (replaced the stock) manufactured by SilenX. They are all higher flow than stock, and lower noise (rated at 15dba). Since my Q9550 quad-core is overclocked to 3.2Ghz, maximum airflow is a must.
Summary: I was going to write a longer review but it would seem that Slugbait has beaten me to it, I would recommend reading his review if you are serious about this case. Instead I will offer some installation tips and things to consider when buying this case. Firstly, your heatsink. I originally had a Thermaltake Contac 29, I very optimistically measured this up in the store while buying the case and thought it would fit. I was wrong.
Summary: I bought this case to build a gaming HTPC a few years ago now and couldn't be happier. If you are looking to build an HTPC that is capable of handling the heat and size of more powerful cpus and GPUS this is the best of all worlds. 1. Unit looks gorgeous. fits in perfectly with the rest of my equipment and the subtle blue LEDs for power and HDD on the front look classy. 2. Big enough to allow you to use normal sized cards, aftermarket coolers, etc, etc.
Summary: This was the largest media case I could find in this general look at a reasonable price, (bigger - easy to add components and better cooling). It is well built, more options to install fans than I have spots on my mother board to add, which gives lots of flexibility. The hard drives can even have fans for cooling. Seems like a well thought out case.
Summary: This is a great case to build an HTPC with. It's on the larger side, but it has loads of space for additional system fans. This isn't the quietest box you will ever own, but if you're looking for lots of space to work with, this is case is a winner. As large as it is though, I found a couple times where it became awkward to get are various areas when building my machine. The case is solidly built and looks great with a brushed aluminum front panel.
Summary: I bought this case for my first build. Overall I am very happy with it. The only issue is the cutouts for the pci cards aren't well designed. I had to spend 30 minutes with plyers bending the cutout to fit an HDMI connection to the video card. A dremel prior to install would be the fastest. Otherwise the fans work well and it is really quiet. It is bigger than I expected so did not fit into my small enternatainment center, but I just put it behind the tv and it works.
Summary: When buying a case at this price point, you usually don't get most of the things you desire, but this LC17 comes pretty close. And for an HTPC, the LC17 should certainly meet the requirements of most people. This case is a replacement for a Cooler Master ATC-600, which was better for certain things, but it only supported micro-ATX.
Summary: The six hard drive bays and fan mounts are awesome! I'm using this as my media PC in my office and the sleek front look with brushed aluminum covers for even the ROM drives look great. Plently of cooling through the case as well.
Summary: The case is solidly built. It can take many drives, which I needed for my media server. It looks good, and it fits in my stack well. Installing the DVD/BD drives can be tricky. The opening in the case for the drawer may not be big enough for your drive, and some trimming may be needed. Only attach the metal cover when you are satisfied with the fit.
