A great HTPC case, but it won't hold 6 drives

Anonymous, Newegg
4 March 2010
  • Summary: For $125-$150, this case would be a good deal. But I just don't think its worth the $250 plus shipping. And at that price, they really should have included the hard drive fans.
  • Pros: Absolutely beautiful case sitting in the rack, matches quite well with my Onkyo receiver. The DVD door actually works, and is even spring loaded. The stock rear fans are decent.
  • Cons: Knocking off an egg for misleading specs. There is simply no way you'd get 6 hard drives in this thing. It has 2 hard drive cages, each with 3 slots. (which is where they get the 6) But the drives hang out over the motherboard. (even a Micro-ATX) So you lose the bottom slot on each cage to the mo...

LC16B

  • Summary: I wish Silverstone would update the equalized to work in all modes instead of just with certain things.
  • Pros: Great Case, I have had it over a year and have already updated it. My new setup is using a full atx board w/ a MSI 8600 GTS Diamond Video Card, it wouldn't work w/ my original DVD Burner but I used a Samsung SATA w/ lightscribe and it has a very short body so it works, even with the PCI power con...
  • Cons: the knob and media buttons are a little cheap feeling but I never use them anyway.

  • Summary: I love this rugged case. did not buy from n.e.saved 80$ but i am an n.e. beliver.I am a novice htpc builder but once i figured out after hours of trial and error how to program remote funtions to work with nero, power dvd and mce this is a very good system and very a educational experience for me...
  • Pros: This case is good looking and built solid to the point, whereas internal noise of fans hdd is not noticeable.it can hold many hdds with excellent cooling optiions. Vfd is way cool but see cons stays cool with good cable management My case came with card reader witch was not advertised .Makes my fr...
  • Cons: Power led is too bright.imon software for remote is difficult to set up due to to poor translation of manual takes lot of time get it right and use with other apps.Must absolutly use a video card that is not too long. having nightmares about how to program harmany remote to operate this system

Great Case But...

  • Summary: If you are only putting a couple of drive in, and don't want a high end graphics card, this is a very nice case.
  • Pros: Nice looking case, looks good on the shelf, was manufactured well. Easy to get all of the pieces in.
  • Cons: I used a ATX motherboard with a CD/DVD, 5 drives, and mushkin component power supply, just was not enough space inside. Even though they say it can hold the drives you really have to be creative with your wiring.

Nice

Jonathan G., Newegg
13 July 2007
  • Summary: The Silverstone website states that the video card needs to be 200mm or shorter. Be warned though, 200mm is the distance from the back of the case right up to the back of your DVD drive, so make sure you get something 185mm or shorter, or a card that does not need a PCI-E power connection from the...
  • Pros: The case is beautiful. It came very securely packed and arrived quickly (Newegg- awesome as usual). Very uncluttered, very functional front panel; it will look very nice in my media rack. All the edges inside are rounded off and very sturdy. There are no sound dampening areas inside the case (sil...
  • Cons: I only gave this case 4 eggs because I'm having a few issues with it. First, I'm a little miffed by the video card selection I have (yes, I read all about it BEFORE I bought the case, leave me alone). Also, a couple of the buttons on the front panel (not all) are spongy, and the knob is not as st...

True Case Review

Shang Y., Newegg
26 May 2006
  • Summary: The case if not for first time builder I will say you will need to build at lease 3 or more computer in order to meet the challenge
  • Pros: I saw many reviews and even a video about how good this case rock the world, but all of these review does not give you a detail picture of what is really good or bad of case. Here is my point. 1. Excellent face plate including exceptional material, blend in to home theather sound system with out ...
  • Cons: The con of this case will make you think about the price you going to pay for this case, here are few pointers: 1. The case is tall and big and heavy, with two HDD, P4, PCI-E VGA, and power supply etc. you are weighting in at 35 to 40lb. Your entertainment shelf must be able to support the weight...

  • Summary: As others have commented, its a tight fit for a modern card and DVD drive. But you can get a 9" 7800GT card (I used BFG's) and a 170mm long DVD drive (LiteOn) to fit. I've done it. In the end though I removed the DVD as I dont use DVD's anymore.
  • Pros: Overall I like most everything about the case. Read many bad reviews about the LCD and remote functionality, but some sotware additions make the LCD fully configurable inside SageTV, which is what I wanted. I dont use the remote though.
  • Cons: It is tight for long video cards video cards and DVD drives.

Don't skimp on the basics

  • Summary: Made an xp mce machine out of this, with a sata raid card, 4 raid drives, an os drive and dvd rom. The install was quite smooth, though when I first hooked up the vfd the thing started smoking like a chimney, and I thought I had fried it.
  • Pros: Solid, heavy case Very quiet 80mm fans Looks fantastic Excellent venting abilities; you can install 6 fans without any case modifications!
  • Cons: Minor workmanship issues - buttons kinda cheap and not well installed. Power supply mounting - with my seasonic installed the power supply doesn't contribute to system cooling. Poor documentation

Excellent, but not enough room for Radeon card (ugh)

Stephen H., Newegg
8 November 2005
  • Summary: I am constructing a system with the LC16B-M case, an ATI Radeon X1800XL card, and an HP dvd740i DVD player. The DVD player is one of the shallowest on the market at 170 mm deep. The ATI card is presumably one of the longest, measuring roughly 9".
