SilverStone LC10 HTPC Case

27 February 2005
  • Summary: Silverstone chose a standard desktop layout for this HTPC case, which is not entirely friendly with this application. Space could have been better utilized by placing hard drive cages in the ample unused front of the case, freeing up space around the motherboard and increasing airflow. Silverstone was concerned enough about airflow to implement fans in their design but has ignored the layout choices that can still choke airflow and makes installation difficult.

  • Summary: Silverstone have a definite winner here. There is a gap in the HTPC market for a case such as this, the only negatives in my personal opinion is the inclusion of 60mm fans at the rear (80mm fans would be much more efficient and quieter) and the poor placement of the front 80mm fan which seems to do little in the way of actually lowering case temperatures. Maybe a fan underneath that blows up into the case opposite the CPU would be more efficient.
  • Pros: Awesome looking HTPC case, Matches High End Audio/Video Equipment, Stealth DVD Bay, Firewire, USB and Audio ports, Great cooling system, Room for five hard drives, Fits standard ATX components, Great Price Point
  • Cons: Included Fans Are a Tad Noisy, No room for a VFD Display (LC10M Model does include one though)
