NZXT Adamas Premium Aluminum Chassis Review

27 May 2008
  • Conclusion: NZXT’s splash into the all aluminum PC case market is a good one. The Adamas should have no troubles finding success with it’s abundance of included 120mm fans, thick aluminum structure, handsome looks, and an innovative finned drive cage. The Adamas does an excellent job with the features it has, however there is one feature I think all mid-sized towers should include; an easily removable hard drive cage.
  • Pros: Sturdy thick aluminum, Extra gripy feet, Handsome styling, Four bundled 120mm sleeve bearing fans, CD/DVD drive bay cover, Tool-less side panels, Tool-less front bezel, Innovative HDD cooling design
  • Cons: Limited tool-less features, Wires permanently attached to removable front bezel, No removable HDD cage, No replacement PCI slot covers, Price

NZXT Adamas

18 May 2007
  • Summary: The NZXT Adamas results in some very mixed feelings. The great build quality with 3 mm thick aluminum and incredible engineering poured into the design of the case are well worth the price tag. The space problems and the hard drive installation problems are definetly nothing a $200 US Dollar case should have. That said, the case should be great for fairly high end systems, but not for the top of the line components like a GeForce 8800 GTX or Ultra.
  • Pros: Incredible build quality, Great engineering inside the case, Hand crafted finish, Four silent 12 cm fans included, Drive rails for easy installation, 3mm thick aluminum, All welded & screwed together - no rivets!, Available in black or silver, Sufficient screws in seperate bags
  • Cons: Way to restrictive for today's high end components, Seagate drives fit, Samsung ones do not, Will not be able to fit 12 cm water cooling kits, PCI brackets need to be broken off and cannot be reused, GeForce 8800GTX/Ultra barely fits and will block two hard drive bays, SLI will block all four, External 3.5 inch bays cannot be used as hard drive bays

  • Summary: I must say my expectations were very high for the Adamas Premium Aluminum Chassis, but they fell short because of flaws in the design. I was curious to see how the screw/tool-less design for the side panels and front cover worked; they wound up being great and make it simple to access the case internals. With such a nice tool-less innovation here, I wonder why they did not continue that idea to the inside and implement some more traditional tool-less features.
  • Pros: » Easily removable front and side panels, » Strong chassis, » Stealth optical drive bay cover, » Four 120mm fans included
  • Cons: » Pull-off covers for expansion slots, » Cramped interior with ATX board, » Molex only connector for fans, » Lacking internal design

  • Summary: For the most part, hardware installation was pretty straightforward. The optical drive and hard drives were mounted without issue. I did run into a slight problem when installing my motherboard, however. The board itself (DFI LanParty UT Nforce 4 SLI-D) installed without issue, but take a closer look... The onboard audio riser card on this board conflicts with the rear 120mm fan. I had to remove the fan in order to install the board with the sound card attached.
