I hate this case with all my heart, but it isn't as bad as I think it is...

Stefan K., Newegg
14 September 2012
  • Summary: I've been in and out of this case a dozen times, added and removed every component twice... I hate it. I can't explain it, but that's how I feel. I got this because of the internal 3.5" bays. I ended up getting a SilverStone HTPC case and external enclosure for the drives.
  • Pros: -Relatively shallow depth allowing it to fit into AV shelves and cabinets. -Form factor and finish look appropriate for an HTPC on display -USB 3.0 support
  • Cons: -Screws strip easily and there are an unnecessary variety of screw size/thread making them hard to replace. -5.25" need a short optical drive to fit properly and the optical drive tray must be installed even if there is no drive because otherwise there would be a gaping hole -If you fill the adve...

Non-standard expansion slot design make insertion of cards difficult

Don B., Newegg
18 August 2011
  • Summary: The slot issue is not because this is a desktop form factor case. It is poor design. I hope they fix it in a future update. If they do, this case will get 5 EGGS (4.4, but no cracked eggs so five). The USB cables are too long, but this issue is secondary to the issue with the expansion slots.
  • Pros: Size. Number of bays for hard drives. Easy to install for many expansion cards, but not all (see cons).
  • Cons: On Newegg's site you can compare the slots of the Lian-Li's PC-A05N case and this case. You will see that the slots on the PC-A05N have cut outs on the top for insertion of cards that have connectors at the top of the card. For example, the ATI CableCard Tuner needs to have the coax connector rem...

Perfect Size?

Sarah B., Newegg
8 January 2011
  • Summary: BluRay/2.5" HDD cage. So far I'm still thinking it may be possible to find an extremely short CPU cooler and fabricate some brackets that make it possible to install HDD cage #2.
  • Pros: Beautiful case that fits in the vast majority of media cabinets. This is perhaps the 10th different Lian Li case I've used in a build, and the build quality does not disappoint. Great airflow. If you're building a reasonable HTPC without any frills, then this is an excellent choice. Unfortunately...
  • Cons: Bought this case because of experience with Lian Li, great looks, excellent size, 3 slots for internal HDD (wow!). 1st problem-same as earlier reviewer; internal HDD bracket behind BluRay/2.5" SDD should be 1/4" farther back. No biggie, I modified the BluRay with a Dremel and got it all to fit. 2...

User Review

Don B., Newegg
6 December 2010
  • Summary: If Lian-Li would fix just the expansion card issues, I would rate the case four eggs. If the the cables were somewhat shorter too, I would give it five.
  • Pros: Overall good design, but check cons.
  • Cons: Front port cables (eSATA and USB 3.0) are too long, but much worse is that the expansion card slot openings do not open on top of slot and opening stops beneath the top of the slot (closer to the motherboard). This is probably to improve rigidity of the case but the result is that removal of card...
