Cooler Master HAF XM Review
9 June 2012
Excerpt: Cooler Master introduced the HAF (High Air Flow) series PC cases in 2008. The key feature of these cabinets, as the name suggests, was the provision of multiple large fans for excellent airflow. So, no matter how hot the hardware inside the box runs, an HAF series case should keep everything cool. The first model in the lineup was the HAF-932, followed by the HAF-922 which was smaller.
Coolermaster HAF XM
offers some really useful features like the hot swappable X-Dock trays, tooless hard drive trays, wire management, easy side panel access via an access handle, and of course the potential for decent system cooling as long as you’re willing to add your own side panel fan. While the PSU cover is a nice touch for hiding some wires, it’s not necessary and can help air flow if left out.
Summary: Cooler Master HAF XM is quite the solid chassis, but it lacks the pep of the original series. You will get all the usual features found in a case of this price range, including USB 3.0, screw-less systems for the hard drive and optical ones, plenty of space to route and hide cables, along with ample space to hold even the biggest coolers and longest graphics cards.
Pros: Solid construction, Dual hot-swap bays, 2.5" SSD slot on side of motherboard tray, Two 200 mm fans included, PSU cover to hide cable mess, LED on/off switch, Plenty of space for cables on the sides, Little space to keep your valuables on top, Radiators should fit in top panel, Separate, screw-less hard drive bays
Cons: Big difference in pricing (USD and Euro). Pricey in Euro, Less detailed design than original HAF, Windowed version to cost 10 USD / 10 Euro more, No 3.5 inch bay, No proper dust filter for PSU bay, PSU bay cover adds a bit to the assembly time
