Solid Case, Odd Power Supply

John P., Newegg
16 April 2009
  • Summary: I am a bit worried that the 650W power supply will not be enough power for my Dual Intal Xeon E5405's on my Supermicro board if I ever decided to throw in a second ATI HD4890 and run a Crossfire setup... will be a hassle to find a replacement (for reasons mentioned in "Cons").
  • Pros: This is a great case!!! It has tons of room and the fans are very powerfull. Antec managed to cram a LOT of stuff into a 3U form factor case while still managing to keep it feeling like I still had a lot of space to work with.
  • Cons: Despite what everyone else here said about the power supply - it is NOT a peice of junk - it works just fine, you merely need to be lucky with the placement of the power on your motherboard or simply be prepared to buy some extension cables. I do, however, agree it would not be easy to find a rep...

  • Summary: This case is super long so check your server closet before you buy to make sure it will fit!
  • Pros: Beautiful case, looks very cool in our server closet! Great lockable cover on front. Nice leds on the front of the case-one even tells network activity! (if your motherboard supports it) Tons of room inside! Fan placement is unbeatable! (which is why I went with Antec!)
  • Cons: the supplied power supply needs about three more inches for the motherboard power connector! I had to modify it's mounting inside the case with brass stand-offs to move it closer to the motherboard and I had to open up the power supply and lengthen the wires and even cut the blue +12 volt wire an...

Very roomy...bad PSU

Anonymous, Newegg
29 August 2008
  • Summary: Here are the steps I took to replace the PSU. I had a few 1/2" motherboard risers whose male ends were threaded the same as the female taps on the front of the new PSU. I attached those to the new PSU and used a right-angle power cord from CablesToGo.
  • Pros: The server case has a lot of room. The construction is solid and the fans are powerful.
  • Cons: The PSU is not standard. The cables come out the same side as the power cord and I have been unable to locate another PSU that is like that. And you can't easily replace it with a standard PSU because there is not enough room for the power cord. See my solution under "Other thoughts".

  • Summary: If you are buying this case, be prepared to replace the power supply with a tower or server model as Antec is putting desktop-style PSU's in this case. This is a problem as the 12v/CPU power feed is not even close to long enough to reach the motherboard.
  • Pros: Good space and cooling, good fitment and solid, rigid construction.
  • Cons: Useless due to power supply. Antec really messed up with this by putting a desktop PSU in the unit with cables that do not reach the motherboard area.
