  • Summary: I was using an Antec but it was really flimsy feel. Cheap plastic. This thing is awesome. Fits 5.25 bay and swap out Hard Drives for Bauckups. Never a need for external Hard Drives.
  • Pros: Indicator lights, Locking Door and Heavier Constuction than Others. Nice and Solid. I will buy more. Good Job Thermaltake..
  • Cons: NONE

Great idea

Anonymous, Newegg
22 February 2011
  • Summary: I am using this in WHS server, and using this drive as a back-up. It contains the WHS information, family photos and my wife and my pc information. Run the backup- take the drive to work and I have permanent off site back-up. I can also easily swap other drives in for what ever purpose I deem necessary.
  • Pros: Easy to install, Easy to use.
  • Cons: Key with lock (one of my children is fascinated with this, so I have to keep a spare copy on my key ring).

Excellent

  • Summary: Someone else mentioned "Hotswap!". It's a great program. Get it, use it. I used a junk drive to test each of my rails. Ran it in and out thirty times or so. As long as you mount it right, the action is smooth and easy. This isn't going to work with tool-free rails, only get it if you chassis will let you remove the rails and use screws. A lot of people gave this bad reviews because they couldn't manage the install.
  • Pros: Great product. I have three of these in my server. Drives stay cool thanks to the open design, the rubber shock mounts do a fair job of noise isolation. No expensive trays to buy saved me lots of $$$. Plus my drives run cooler than they do in trays. (27-29C under extended periods at full load, and not even in the vicinity of a fan, vs 25C in front of the intake fan in the drive cage).
  • Cons: Only supports 1.5g SATA maybe? My drives are slower than they would be connected direct, or so it seems. I have not used it much yet, could just be me. Otherwise nothing big enough to loose an egg. The lock is very cheap, but I don't plan on using it. Front door is also definitely made to a budget. It's a bit...plastic. Sometimes doesn't like to close all the way without a bit of force applied. I wish that it was a tad more solid. Also, there are 8 screw holes for mou...

Best $20 I've spent

David N., Newegg
14 January 2011
  • Summary: I have a LOT of data to back up/ transfer to various drives, and this has saved me SO MUCH TIME. I use it almost daily. It's so convenient, that I don't even bother with my E-Sata external drive anymore. It's faster to just take the drive out of the enclosure than hook up all the cables. Ability to clone/image as well as boot very useful. It saved me at LOT of trouble when my OS got corrupted and I had to clean install.
  • Pros: Works perfectly every time in over 100 swaps, easy to use & fast to swap. NO problems with variety of HDDs (1TB & 2TB WD Black, 1TB (F3) & 2TB (F3 & F4) Samsungs, Seagate 500GB and even old WD 250GB & 320GB). Direct SATA (not E-SATA) interface allows you to do everything as if it was inside the case - including clone/imaging and even boot. Minimal design (i.e. not fully enclosed) helps keep drive cool without fan noise. In my FT02 case, F3 & F4 2TB drive temps about 3...
  • Cons: Biggest complaint is that it doesn't sit flush with the front of my case. It sticks out maybe 1/8" so no big deal. Not incredibly sturdy, but minimal design does help w/ heat & airflow. Anti-vibration could be improved a bit, but I RARELY notice any drive vibration. Would rather not have Thermaltake logo. Overall, very minor stuff.

love it!

Colin M., Newegg
13 August 2010
  • Summary: Awesome!
  • Pros: Love it! I have 3 in my system. Makes it so much easier to manage the many drives I have. The HD activity led does work on my hard drives. One review on here said it didnt. Apparently, the power plug of SATA HDs have the LED activity out signal (learned something new). If you use the included thermaltake power Y adapter the HD led activity led will work. The other blue LED shows which bays have a HD so you dont accidentily unplug a HD thats in use. I also find them an...
  • Cons: None that I see. But...because this is in the 5.25" bays of your computer and you probably dont have much air circulation there, your drives could run over 15degs hotter! (mine runs 10degs hotter.) Watch your HD temps using a SMART monitoring program (and enabling SMART in your bios if not already enabled) BE AWARE! HOT DRIVES DIE FAST! Install Fans if possible.

HOTSWAP TIP

Joe H., Newegg
3 July 2010
  • Summary: Hotswap.exe .... Google it, download it... even if you use the AHCI, you will want this free tool! Just click on the icon, select the drive to remove and is detaches it.... works great with XP, Vista and Windows 7.
  • Pros: I ordered my ThermalTake SATA Rack almost a year ago and it works GREAT! Hotswap DOES work, with or WITHOUT AHCI... the trick? Read other thoughts... your gonna love it if you haven't done it yet!
  • Cons: I NEED A COUPLE MORE!

Best thing since sliced bread

Dmitri K., Newegg
11 June 2010
  • Summary: First, got a few from a store to try it out. Totally loved them. Got lots of them from NewEgg. To have LEDs fully functional, must plug in the supplied power connector, as shown in the manual - didn't notice this at first, so I thought it's missing a LED cable.. no - I should read the fun manual. With the supplied cable plugged in properly, it doesn't need anything else plugged in anywhere.
  • Pros: Works like a charm. Excellent product. Quality construction - installs smoothly, fits standard hard drives smoothly. Supports hot-swap (assuming your controller and OS can handle it - if they can't, don't blame Max4). Makes managing hard drives infinitely easier. 2 LEDs to indicate "power" and "activity" - activity can be seen for each specific drive. No worries about opening door when there might be an active HD inside.
  • Cons: None.

Great Product for the Price.

Dr. A., Newegg
3 May 2010
  • Summary: Not really and issue, but had to set it up in the system BIOS as AHCI to make it hot-swappable.
  • Pros: For the price, it's a great product. I have no issue with the construction for occasional use. Was exactly what I expected. As for Newegg, what can I say. Ordered it one day.....got it the next!
  • Cons: None.
