Summary: I wanted to be able to quickly check hard drives to format or test and this does the job. I keep my back up drive in it and when i want to bench test a drive i just pull it out and put the test drive in and thats it. No rebooting it instantly recognizes it
Pros: easy install. Works to hot swap harddrives, fast and it works everytime
Cons: It is a little flimsy. If you have a tooless design case the there may be issues keeping it secure. It worked ok but it is a little loose
Summary: If you plan on buying this you may need to buy a molex male to 2 or 3 molex female connector depending on the amount of trays you hvae in your system. I have six of them for my rack mounted NAS. I am running Windows Server 2008 on a 32GB CF using a CF to IDE adapter for a removable SSD solution.
Pros: Allows for bare drives to be hot swaped if your bios + motherboard support it without the need for Hard drive trays. I'm getting the same speeds with this product that I want getting with my tray, rack system.
Cons: In order to get the activity light to work you have to use their molex to sata power connector with the little 4 pin adapter for the activity light. slight pressure on the arm is needed to engage the lock.
Summary: Used on HP z600 workstation used with WD Caviar Blue 500G HDD Win 7 64 bit Back-up performed daily.
Pros: Fairly easy install. Solid construction, ejector arm pushes the drive out to where it can be grasped and then fully removed after opening the door. Lockable door as theft deterrent. Went right to work as back-up for my workstation with no glitches. All necessary hardware and SATA cable included. ...
Cons: A bit of confusion in regard to the appropriate location of the cabling/wiring (probably due to my relative inexperience.) The included directions were detailed enough when I took the time to study them a bit.
Summary: If your case has rails I would suggest using one with removable trays. Because of the way that the chasis is built with the shock absorbing rubber spacers this product will not fit properly if your case uses rails. The rails require the sides of the drive that they are mounted on to be rigid.
Pros: This seems to be well built in comparison to others that I have used. I don't feel like anything will break when I swap drives.
Summary: I bought 3 of these for one of my computers and overall I'm very happy with them. I wanted to be able to swap drives out quick and easily and they do that well.
Pros: This enclosure is very convenient as you do not need a tray. If your drives are AHCI you can hot swap them.
Cons: Sometimes you have to use a good deal of force to get the door to close. Drive activity LEDs only work with molex power connectors and not sata ones. Some drives may vibrate enough to be a bit noisy.
Summary: UPS got this to me in 2 days, which is really nice since I paid for 3day shipping. The connection panel in the back for the lights is a bit flimsy, but the sata power+data connector is rock solid.
Pros: It's amazing to me how much the noise from my 2 raptors in raid0 was reduced. Even with the front of my case (Apeiva X-cruiser) open, the seek noises are almost indistinguishable from the fans. Installation is easy, and drives just slide in and out. It takes a little effort to close the door but ...
Cons: The lights will only work if you use the molex to sata+4pin cable, and the drive activity light doesn't respond to drive activity (I'm guessing it has something to do with raid arrays). That's all aesthetic, not functional.
