Neat toy but....

Ben F., Newegg
3 August 2008
  • Summary: I was wanting an interesting tool to fill one of the many spare 5.25" bays. Just something pleasing to the eye that would be exceptionally functional. This was probably too expensive (for me) for what it really does unless you're specifically building a media center rig.
  • Pros: Remote works well, nice configuration options for information to display. News ticker, stock ticker, weather, sys information, you name it. Works well with XP 64, when so few things take proper advantage of that system. Asthetically it adds a great glow to a system with blue themed lighting, espe...
  • Cons: As others have said, viewing angle is fairly low, maybe 90 degrees. For me, a con would be that the device spontaneously forgot what it was. My systems (I tested it in 3) all kept reporting it as an unknown device. I lost the ability to configure anything with it and eventually it even lost the p...

Silverstone MFP51 Cheap?

Anonymous, Newegg
25 May 2008
  • Summary: Neat concept, and really needed these days to take you pc to the next level.
  • Pros: This unit is really neat as the functions that it takes from your keyboard and places them at the tip of your thumbs. (Lefty or Righty thumbs). Any who, the unit does what it says when it comes down to interfacing with "certain" media software. Flawless integration with Media Center. It also cont...
  • Cons: WinDVD integration is partial. You will notice that on some DVD or BluRay disc, you can not control the menu with your remote, and yes even after you program it in the settings. Next, this may just be an isolated incident, but the screen was not attached properly when shipped. It looked as they d...

Anonymous, Newegg
19 February 2008
  • Summary: Hope the RMA process goes ok
  • Pros: ???
  • Cons: Did not gave all parts in box. Motherboard Power connector missing. Newegg said had part and would ship. A week later canceled order, w/o contacting me. Called and said they did not have part and need to call Silverstone.

As Expected

Anonymous, Newegg
29 December 2007
  • Summary: I see that others have had problems with reading the display, I have had no such problems. My unit cam with a slighltly slanted display, only by a couple of mm so not a big deal. Overall this product is a must for any media center.
  • Pros: It serves the purpose I bought it for, my new media center. I love not having to worry about hooking up a mouse or keyboard, it makes the whole experience a ton easier and cleaner.
  • Cons: None as of yet.

Stupid

Scott S., Newegg
21 December 2007
  • Summary: The LCD display is a tǔrď and will make you look stupid if anyone ever looks at the display and sees that it's just a bunch of blinking/scrolling garbage.
  • Pros: The remote for this device works as promised. Thankfully the RMA process won't be a nightmare.
  • Cons: I happend to buy this device for the LCD display thinking that it might provide some kind of useful information at a glance. THE LCD SCREEN IS UNREADABLE! THERE IS NO WAY TO CHANGE THE LANGUAGE DISPLAYED ON THE UNIT! I tried everything to get the unit to display properly or at least so that it wa...

Different...

Joe M., Newegg
2 August 2007
  • Summary: Well worth the price. Also if you do your homework on this product, you'll learn that newegg or silverstone's website doesn't tell you all the features. Go online and search for complete reviews of this product and you'll be impressed.
  • Pros: It looks amazing, the LCD is huge and the remote can be programed to do anything, I mean anything. Great for multimedia and you theoretically don't even need to use a mouse or keyboard, because the remote can do both. There are so many custom functions, it's ridiculous. My favorite feature is tha...
  • Cons: The contrast with the LCD display in kind of weird and the scrolling text isn't that clear. The viewing angle has to be almost directly in front of it to have the greatest clarity. My biggest Con is that you have to disconnect the case power switch to use silvertones on off by remote. Easy fix by...
